Georgia House votes to fund pregnancy resource centers

On Friday, the Georgia State House passed legislation to provide grants to pregnancy resource centers offering alternatives to abortion.

Bill sponsor Sen. Renee Unterman, a Republican, called the measure a “positive” response to the Center for Medical Progress’s undercover videos detailing Planned Parenthood’s sale of aborted baby parts.

Rep. Sharon Cooper, also a Republican, added: “I think we have a moral responsibility to say: ‘If you make the choice, if you choose life and you need help, we’ll be there to help you.'”

According to Georgia Life Alliance, an estimated 70 facilities in the state would qualify for the money. In addition, Georgia currently has 274 federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics, but just four Planned Parenthood locations.

Abortion supporters have vigorously attacked pro-life pregnancy centers as untrustworthy and unqualified, charges which Live Action News has addressed here.

The bill already passed the state Senate last month, where it now returns to resolve differences between the two versions. Governor Nathan Deal has not commented on the bill yet, but has signed pro-life measures in the past.
