Daily Show host Trevor Noah has accused others of scientific illiteracy on climate change. That’s interesting, because it sounds like Mr. Noah could use a lesson when it comes to biology.
Recently, he suggested that Sen. Marco Rubio could get pregnant…after being raped by “a giant mosquito.” At this point, you might be hoping these comments will make sense once they’re put in context.
You can stop.
Florida is experiencing an outbreak of the Zika virus. Spread by mosquitoes, it’s linked to microcephaly in preborn children, a condition affecting head size and brain development. While some contend it justifies late term abortion, Rubio disagrees:
When you present it in the context of Zika or any prenatal condition, it’s a difficult question and a hard one. But if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life. . . . I’m not pretending to you that that’s an easy question you asked me. But I’m pro-life. And I’m strongly pro-life. I believe all human life should be protected by our law, irrespective of the circumstances or condition of that life.
Trevor Noah responded with this:
“I wish a giant mosquito would f*** Rubio and leave him pregnant with a Zika baby. Then we’ll see how much he believes in those laws.”
Obviously, Noah has gotten some bad information regarding human reproduction. But it doesn’t stop there: he believes an abortion only affects the woman having it. Noah proclaimed, “I don’t understand how any man thinks that he has the right to dictate to women what they should do with their body.” Someone should probably ask him whose heartbeat he thinks an abortion stops.
If that doesn’t clarify things, then I know who can. Dr. Anthony Levatino is an obstetrician-gynecologist who’s done over 1,200 abortions, and in the video below, he explains what a second trimester abortion technique known as dilation and evacuation (D&E) consists of.
After the amniotic fluid is removed, the abortionist uses a sopher clamp — a grasping instrument with rows of sharp “teeth” — to grasp and pull the baby’s arms and legs, tearing the limbs from the child’s body.
The abortionist continues to grasp intestines, spine, heart, lungs, and any other limbs or body parts. The most difficult part of the procedure is usually finding, grasping and crushing the baby’s head.
After removing pieces of the child’s skull, the abortionist uses a curette to scrape the uterus and remove the placenta and any remaining parts of the baby.
As you read words like “grasp” and “tearing,” keep in mind there’s evidence a baby can feel pain at 20 weeks.
When Brazil saw a Zika virus epidemic last year, it lead to calls for the country’s abortion laws to be loosened. Journalist Ana Carolina Caceres was born with microcephaly and she voiced her opposition, arguing that “those who have abortions are not giving their children a chance to succeed.” Because the reality is, their lives are the ones that abortion cuts short. It’s a lesson Trevor Noah would do well to learn.
