Pro-abortion activists disrupt pro-life student event in Italy with smoke bombs
According to the pro-life Pro Vita & Famiglia (Pro Life & Family), pro-abortion student activists in Italy interrupted an event held by a pro-life student group at the University of Milan last week, ultimately causing the event to be canceled. The incident was caught on video.
“During the event ‘Welcoming Life: Stories of Free Choices,’ organized by Obiettive Studenti, a student group associated with the Communion and Liberation Movement (a pro-life Catholic group), a group of radical left-wing students and activists (Udu, Rebelot, Cambiare Rotta — Communist Youth Organization) disrupted the proceedings,” wrote Pro Vita & Famiglia on X.
The pro-abortion group entered the lecture hall where the event was being held and “engaged in blasphemy, insults, and both physical and verbal violence…” One pro-life student was “doused with water” and a security officer from the university was “shoved to the ground.” The pro-abortion students also allegedly “chanted offensive slogans, displayed banners, and set off smoke bombs.”
Though police officers were present at the event, the planned speakers and the students who came to hear the speeches had to leave for their own safety.
“It is unacceptable that in Italy — as evidenced by the repeated attacks on the @ProVitaFamiglia headquarters — it is no longer possible to freely express pro-life views without risking one’s physical safety,” said Pro Vita & Famiglia.

The offices of Pro Vita & Famiglia has been targeted at least 13 times since 2023. In June of that year, the group experienced what it called “verbal violence” via vandalism when an LGBT group in Rome held a “Pride” event and decided to attack the pro-life group’s offices.
In November 2023, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a rally turned violent against Pro Vita & Famiglia. Its headquarters were attacked by about 200 people who graffitied the building with “Free abortion,” “Die, let’s choose free abortion,” and “Let’s burn the pro-lifers.” Someone also threw a Molotov cocktail at the building.
In June 2024, the office was again vandalized by a woman who glued her personal pro-abortion art to the office window. When the art was removed, the woman claimed the pro-life group was violating her freedom of expression and censoring her art.
