Abortion pill conglomerate uses ‘honor’ system to verify client location before mailing drugs

Abortion pill conglomerate Abortion Telemedicine claims to use the ‘honor system’ to verify the location of their clients before dispensing the drug regimen by mail. As such, they may be assisting in violating state laws that prohibit abortion or the mailing of the abortion pill into specific states. In addition, the conglomerate potentially risks being in violation of the federal Comstock Act, which prohibits mailing “any article, instrument, substance, drug, medicine, or thing [that] may, or can, be used or applied for producing abortion[.]”

Founded in 2022, the Florida based Abortion Telemedicine is registered in the state as “AB TEL MED LLC” and currently claims to “offer abortion pills online in 20 states for only $145.” As is typical of multiple unregulated abortion pill dispensaries, the website does not disclose a business address or location; however, State Division of Corporation records reveal the organization’s registered agent address as 618 E South St, STE 500 Orlando, FL, 32801.

Abortion Telemedicine Founder

The abortion pill conglomerate’s founder, Dr. Jayaram Brindala, who features multiple videos and images of himself on the website as well as his social media pages, is currently licensed to practice medicine in Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Kentucky, according to the Florida State Medical Board. His LinkedIn page reveals he is a Board Member of Orlando Science Schools, HYPT Health, and Checkup Health, among other things.

“Dr. Brindala previously served as Chief Medical Officer at AdventHealth ($16 billion) with prior physician executive roles at integrated payor-provider systems including Highmark ($26 billion) and UPMC ($26 billion). Dr. Brindala began his career in health policy as Senior Advisor for the Obama Administration and then as Senior Advisor for a Columbia University Think-Tank,” he wrote in his online bio.

He also claims to be president of something called the American Board of Public Health (ABPH) — but that website, which contains scant information, has been “undergoing scheduled website maintenance” for quite some time, according to archived webpages. A search at the Florida Secretary of State appears to indicate that he is also the founder.

Brindala appears to be considering cashing in on the latest ventures of the abortion pill industry as well as so-called “gender-affirming care.” A search at the Florida Secretary of State’s website revealed that he is either a founder or registered agent of additional company names which sound similar to physician umbrella agencies. These include the “American College of Public Health LLC,” “The American Board of Gender Medicine, LLC,” and “The American College of Gender Medicine, LLC.”

“Abortion Telemedicine… offer[s] a much lower price and ship to many more states than any other organization,” Brindala claimed in the original press release announcing his opening. “The price of $145 covers the video-chat with our healthcare providers, abortion medications if appropriate, and medication delivery in 1-3 business days. Book appointments now at abortiontelemedicine.com,” he wrote.

“We provide evidence-based medicine and ensure the best diagnosis and treatment for safe and optimal health outcomes aligned to shared decision-making with patients and families. We support American healthcare ethics of autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice,” the release also stated.

Abortion “Providers” Ready in Multiple States

Brindala claims to have “providers” ready to go in multiple states, which he refers to by initials under the “team” tab of his website (see the image below).

“We have several providers, so I just messaged everyone in the last 30 minutes, please add more hours, we want to serve as many people as possible,” Brindala told NBC News. He also told the news outlet in a separate interview that in some states, abortion clients can order misoprostol alone, but that regimen would likely cause “a lot more discomfort, but also the amount of bleeding and cramping would probably be increased.”

The images below of Abortion Telemedicine’s “team” appear generic, as no identifiable information such as last names or license numbers were included.

No ID verification Claimed by Abortion Conglomerate

Brindala told the New York Times (NYT) that Abortion Telemedicine does not “have any barriers such as an ID verification or GPS validation,” he said.

“Some patients indicate they reside in states with abortion restrictions and are traveling to states where abortion is legal to receive pills at an address there, where the company can legally ship them, Dr. Brindala said,” according to NYT.

But the abortion pill conglomerate’s website instructs abortion clients how to potentially skirt state laws.

When a client asks, “Can I get my pills outside my state?” the unregulated website instructs them that they can “[p]ick up your package at a US Post Office (USPS) using General Delivery in one of the states listed below at no extra cost. Learn about General Delivery at the USPS website, and please contact the USPS location before shipping. See if this General Delivery is available at a USPS location with this link by typing ‘General Delivery’ in the Street Address box, typing in the Zip Code box, and clicking Find.”

Those states include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Washington, D.C.

A “general delivery” is not an actual address of resident location — revealing, yet again, the lengths the abortion industry will go to skirt state laws to profit from killing preborn children.

Regardless of where the pills land, the abortion pill conglomerates privacy disclaimer claims they may collect and possibly release “the anonymized information gathered from the users in the aggregate” which could possibly include the IP address of the user.

The privacy statement of the abortion pill conglomerate also states:
