Amna Dermish is the Regional Medical Director for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, and in a recent op-ed for the Washington Post, she complained that she won’t be able to commit abortions in the state during the coronavirus pandemic. Referencing the abortion ban in Texas, which the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals recently upheld, Dermish acknowledged that the world is facing an unprecedented health crisis. And it’s for that very reason that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott put the ban into place to begin with; all surgeries and procedures which are not medically essential are currently not allowed, with the goal of preserving hospital beds and personal protective equipment (PPE). Yet Dermish, as an abortionist, is focused on abortion.
“Abortion is unequivocally an essential procedure. It is also incredibly time-sensitive,” she wrote, adding, “Coupled with mandatory delays and increased costs, abortion will be entirely out of reach for some, and there will be Texans forced to carry pregnancies to term against their will.” She also claimed the ban would lead to a greater spread of coronavirus because desperate patients would attempt to travel to states known for late-term abortion. But what is Planned Parenthood offering scared and desperate women during this time? Prenatal care? Pregnancy resources? Adoption help? No. Just abortion.
“… [U]nder the dire conditions of a pandemic, threatening so many people’s well-being, denying access to a safe and essential procedure feels especially cruel,” Dermish wrote. Hearing such a sentiment from a person who takes innocent human lives for a living is always jarring. But in this case, it’s especially shocking given past comments Dermish made, caught on an undercover Center for Medical Progress recording. In that video, she discussed how she alters abortion procedures in order to better obtain fetal body parts to be sold — a practice that is illegal under federal law.

In the video, Dermish explained how she used ultrasound guidance to convert the child to breech presentation — with the buttocks facing down — in order to extract the baby up to the head. She admitted how she hasn’t yet been able to extract the full calvarium, or skull, when fetal tissue procurement agencies want both hemispheres of the fetal brain intact. Her response, as she laughed, was to say, “Well, this will give me something to strive for!”
Dermish also noted how she marvels over the aborted child’s body parts when the child’s body parts are being reassembled to ensure a complete abortion. One of her employees, she said, was “really into” organ development. Dermish said that the employee always looks for things like the kidneys and the heart, just for fun, and that it’s something that fascinates her as well. “It’s amazing,” she said in the video. “It’s like — I have so much respect for development — it’s just incredible.”
“Respect” for the development of the children that she is paid to kill? Killing does not equate to respect. It’s a known scientific fact that life begins at the moment of fertilization, and an incredible amount of the child’s “incredible” development takes place in the first trimester. Within just three short weeks, the preborn child’s heart is beating, and just a few weeks later, brain waves can be measured. In the first trimester alone, most of the major organs are already formed, many by the time a woman realizes she’s pregnant. By seven weeks, a preborn child can respond to touch. If someone knows these scientific facts, and marvels over them, then how can they possibly feel comfortable taking that human being’s life?

Dermish presents herself as both a victim and a hero in this coronavirus scenario. She, as the hero, merely wants to help the patients she so cares for; as the victim, she is cruelly kept from being able to care for her patients by heartless bureaucrats. In reality, she is taking innocent lives and offering women no help beyond abortion.
Planned Parenthood may claim to be a legitimate health care provider, but Dermish and her fellow Planned Parenthood abortionists have demonstrated this to be untrue by their actions during the coronavirus pandemic. Right now, they could be taking this opportunity to stop abortions and provide the legitimate health care they supposedly offer. But they won’t. Because Planned Parenthood is about abortion, above all else, no matter how much they try to say otherwise.
