Live Action’s latest video in its Pro-Life Replies series looks at the question of whether or not the Bible speaks about abortion and what it has to say.
In “What Does the Bible Say About Abortion?,” John McCray, host of the YouTube Channel called “Whaddo You Meme??” in which he defends the Christian faith, discusses what the Bible says about abortion, explaining that the Bible is explicitly against it.
“When it comes to the abortion debate, sometimes we hear people claim that the Bible says nothing about abortion or we hear that the Bible actually supports the practice of abortion,” says McCray. “But the reality is the Bible is actually 100% pro-life.”
He goes on to explain that the Bible both condemns the killing of innocent human beings and treats preborn children as members of the human family. McCray explained that Christianity teaches that God became a human being at the moment of fertilization, not at birth. He reflects on the story of Mary, who is pregnant with Jesus, visiting her cousin Elizabeth, who is pregnant with John the Baptist.
“Now when Elizabeth hears Mary’s greeting,” he says, “we’re told that John the Baptist leaped in the womb and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, ‘Most Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” Elizabeth refers to Christ as her Lord while he is still in the womb, and John reacts to Christ’s presence as well, though he is also still in the womb.
Psalm 139, Isaiah 49, and Jeremiah 1:5 each speak to the humanity of children in the womb.

In addition to treating preborn children as members of the human family, the Bible also condemns killing innocent human beings.
Despite these examples that show the Bible is pro-life, abortion advocates see some of the stories in the Bible as being supportive of the killing of innocent humans. Two such stories that McCray tackles are that of the great flood and of God commanding Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac. He also refers to Exodus 21:22, which speaks of an injury caused to a pregnant woman who gives birth prematurely as a result, and Numbers 5, which speaks of adultery.
McCray breaks down these stories and others to prove that the Bible is pro-life.
