Cecile Richards, the former president of Planned Parenthood, has been issued the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden. During her 12-year tenure leading Planned Parenthood (from 2006 until she resigned in 2018), she presided over the abortion deaths of nearly four million preborn children.
Biden referred to Richards as having “absolute courage,” falsely claiming she “fearlessly leads us forward to be the America we say we are — a nation of freedom.” Biden’s post on X stated, “Through her work to lift up the dignity of workers, defend and advance women’s reproductive rights and equality, and mobilize Americans to exercise their power to vote, she has carved an inspiring legacy.”
But an America that allows and even promotes the killing of innocent preborn human beings is not truly free, nor can it claim to stand for freedom when it unjustly robs children of their right to life.
Abortions Soared Under Cecile Richards
In response to the news, Live Action president Lila Rose wrote on X, “Cecile Richards presided over the abortions of 3.9 million babies as president of Planned Parenthood. She belongs in jail. Not in the White House receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Cecile Richards followed Gloria Feldt as the abortion giant’s president after Feldt stepped down from her leadership role. Richards has been credited for turning Planned Parenthood into “the largest kick-butt political organization,” as she set out to do. However, in that time, the organization’s actual healthcare services dwindled, while abortion and taxpayer dollars to the organization continue to climb.
From the time Richards took the helm as Planned Parenthood’s CEO/political organizer in 2006 to the end of her tenure there, government dollars to the abortion corporation increased over 67% — from $336.7 million annually (2006-2007) to $563.8 million annually (2017-2018).
During that same time, abortions at Planned Parenthood rose nearly 15% (14.84%), from 289,750 yearly to 332,757 yearly. Over the course of those 12 years, Planned Parenthood committed nearly 3.9 million abortions (3,876,062).
Earlier this year, Richards divulged that she was undergoing treatments for brain cancer.
Richard’s not-so-“inspiring” legacy
While Richards’ work may have impressed pro-abortion President Joe Biden, it was far from the “inspiring legacy” he portrayed it to be. Under Richards…
- Planned Parenthood falsely claimed the organization provided mammograms.
- Planned Parenthood continued to honor the organization’s white supremacist founder Margaret Sanger, despite years of being well aware of her beliefs.
- Planned Parenthood was rife with accusations of abuses, scandals, fraud, racism, privacy breaches, and Medicaid fraud.
- Planned Parenthood covered up child sexual abuse, failing to protect children by not following mandatory reporting laws.
- Planned Parenthood was caught in an alleged fetal tissue selling scheme by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP). In fact, as previously documented by Live Action News, Cecile Richards apologized on video for the “tone” of Planned Parenthood’s Medical Director, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, who was shown munching on salad in the first CMP video while discussing her method of strategically “crushing” above and below a baby’s abdomen during an abortion in order to obtain undamaged fetal organs for procurement agencies.
Tragically, also under Richards, Planned Parenthood committed an average of 325,000 abortions every year.
As one X user observed, “She has been given a medal for killing the most number of Americans.”
And there is nothing inspiring about that.
