On Saturday, former Vice President and 2020 Democratic candidate Joe Biden squashed any notion that he might be moderate on the issue of abortion. As president, he said he would enshrine Roe v. Wade into federal law, and also reiterated that he is in favor of allowing federal taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions — an opinion in complete opposition to the vast majority of Americans.
During a Planned Parenthood forum, Biden pushed his support for abortion, in order to dispel the idea that he has a “mixed record” on the issue. “I’ve had a 100 percent voting record,” he said, an apparent attempt to put to rest any fears Planned Parenthood and its supporters may have about his support for abortion.
He told the audience, “I would codify Roe v. Wade as defined by Casey. It should be the law.”
“Casey” refers to the Supreme Court case Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, which was decided in 1992. In Casey, the Court upheld the “right” to an abortion that was found in Roe v. Wade. However, it also removed Roe’s trimester framework in favor of viability, and said that state regulations on abortion in any trimester could not impose “an undue burden” on a woman. Thus, it allowed states to regulate some aspects of abortion in the first trimester.
Biden went on to say that he would “eliminate all the changes” the Trump administration has made to Title X, the government program that funds family planning for low-income Americans. The new Title X guidelines prevent federal funding from being given to any health facility that either commits or refers for abortions. He also said he would work to end the Mexico City Policy, which forbids U.S. dollars from being used to fund international organizations that commit abortions or refer for abortions. “People are dying around the world,” said Biden, apparently oblivious to the fact that funding abortion worldwide would actually cause more deaths. “We are their saviors around the world.”

Yet the people in other countries don’t want the western world coming into their country to kill the preborn children whom they love and value. “If we’re talking about abortion, well, I don’t think that any Western country has a right to pay for abortions in an African country, especially when the majority of people don’t want abortion… that then becomes a form of ideological colonization,” Obianuju Ekeocha, founder and president of Culture of Life Africa, has stated in the past.
And finally, Biden misled once again on Planned Parenthood’s role in our society. It is becoming increasingly obvious that Planned Parenthood cares more about their bottom line than about women — yet Biden thanked the abortion corporation. “I think you don’t get enough credit. Planned Parenthood, you are the ones who are providing for all of the healthcare for poor women in more ways that no one else has been able to do,” he claimed.
This is an unbelievably dishonest statement.
Planned Parenthood abortion numbers continue to rise, but their actual health services are steadily declining. Planned Parenthood commits about 35 percent of abortions in the U.S.; meanwhile, they perform less than two percent of all cancer screenings, less than two percent of all breast exams, and less than one percent of Pap exams. Not only do they not perform mammograms and are losing patients each year, but there are about 12,000 federal qualified health care centers nationwide that can and do help low-income women — about 27 million people yearly — compared to just 600 Planned Parenthood locations which serve around 2.4 million. For Biden to claim that Planned Parenthood is “providing for all of the healthcare for poor women” is beyond dishonest — it’s outrageous.
Biden got it wrong about Planned Parenthood — and about his so-called “moderate” position on abortion.
