Trina McGee, known for her starring role in the 1990s ABC sitcom, “Boy Meets World,” recently announced that she is pregnant with her fourth child – at the age of 54.
This is not the first time McGee has surprised her paparazzi with pregnancy news. Fans recall that McGee was last pregnant 26 years ago, in 1998, while she was on set for the filming of “Boy Meets World,” where she did her best to conceal a baby bump in the episode, “And Then There Was Shawn.” McKee revealed her pregnancy this time around with a photograph on Instagram displaying her baby bump while wearing a swimsuit and sarong.
McGee announced her surprising pregnancy on Instagram with these words: “At the tender age of 54 I have found myself pregnant. Please bless us with your prayers for a safe delivery. Thank you.”
McGee’s preborn baby is the first child she shares with her current spouse – actor, producer, and director, Marcello Thedford. According to People Magazine, the couple has been married for 16 years. McGee and Thedford met in Rome 28 years ago during the filming of “Daylight,” Sylvester Stallone’s 1996 film.
“I wanted to have a baby with my current husband of 16 years for quite awhile ” McGee told ET .
McGee and Thedford tried to conceive without any intervention at all, and it does not appear that the couple has used in-vitro fertilization (IVF). McGee told ET that she was able to conceive after visiting Belize and using the medicinal herbs and other natural remedies that the Garifuna people have discovered.
“I am not a person that really leans into something like IVF, so what I did is I went down to Belize and talked to some shamans. I actually was able to come up with an elixir… the extract of wild yam[,] and then I found out that I was happily pregnant and I couldn’t really believe it.”
McKee thinks that a combination of natural positive factors – natural remedies, herbs, and a low-stress environment — helped her to conceive the baby.
McGee received negative feedback on Instagram after posting the good news of her pregnancy. At least one person made a comment about McGee not being around for her child in 20 years time. Other people left positive comments, calling McGee’s pregnancy a gift from God and wishing her joy.
McGee responded to the criticism she received for growing her family during her interview with ET.
“It’s an individual decision, but be realistic about it. Be realistic about your lifespan — make provisions. And understand that when you do have a baby at this age, what you should have for them is a lot of wisdom — and that’s the beauty of the situation,” she said.
McGee described her own feelings about her pregnancy in the interview.
“Just sheer joy, sheer joy, and I don’t partake in any of the negativity anybody has to say about it,” she said.
