Some observers have remarked that because the “bad guys” have already won the culture war in western European countries like Great Britain, public discourse on abortion in such counties tends to be in some ways more honest than it is in the United States, where a biased MSM must shield the public from the truth about abortion in order to protect the embattled abortion lobby’s interests. I was reminded of this theory when perusing this BBC story from this morning about abortion in Scotland: “Abortion rate in Scotland falls for second year.”
It wasn’t the text of the article that surprised me, but the photograph accompanying it. To illustrate the usually pro-abortion talking point of “More abortions were carried out early in pregnancy,” the BBC chose a beautiful photo of an unborn baby maybe 6 weeks old.
Can you imagine CNN running an image like that with an abortion story?
I searched around just a little bit and was able to find this UK news piece from 2005, “50 babies a year are alive after abortion.” This article also included what I presume was an image of an unborn baby, but the image unfortunately no longer displays.
A cynic might wonder if perhaps the honesty with which the British media cover abortion has more to do with meeting the commercial need for sensational journalism in a culture more jaded to its own vices. What do you think? And what if we could get American news media to run such clear and convincing images of the humanity of the unborn child or the inhumanity of abortion? How?
