Actress Alexa PenaVega and her husband, musician and actor Carlos, have announced the devastating loss of their baby girl. In a joint statement released on their Instagram accounts on April 15, the couple announced that their daughter Indy Rex PenaVega was stillborn.
“There are never the right words to say when it comes to loss,” the couple said. “After a beautiful and peaceful delivery our daughter ‘Indy’ was born at rest. It has been a painful journey. But in pain we have found peace. God continues to comfort and hold us in his arms. The prayers from the community around us have been so sustaining in this difficult season. This little girl has already changed our lives in so many ways. She was absolutely beautiful. And looked just like daddy. Dark hair and all.”

The couple shared in November 2023 that they were expecting their fourth child. They are also parents to sons Ocean, 6, and Kingston, 4, and daughter, Rio, 2. They have been open about their parenting journey with their social media followers for years and have been chronicling their most recent pregnancy on Instagram with a VLOG and baby bump pictures. Some updates mention ‘scares.’
“Grief had come to us in waves,” they wrote on Instagram regarding the loss of Indy. “Moments of feeling absolutely gutted… then moments of feeling blessed by just getting a moment with her.
“We can’t understand why things like this happen and we may never get those answers. Indy Rex PenaVega, you completely changed our world. You moved us to a new place. You gave us the community we have been longing for. We love you can’t wait to see how many other lives you change.”
PenaVega has been open about her pro-life beliefs in recent years, speaking with Christine Yeargin, host of the Students for Life podcast “Speak Out,” in early 2023.
“I honestly believe that you either believe in life as life as a whole, and you see babies, whether babies are in the womb or outside of the womb, as life or you don’t. And… once life begins — that is a whole baby. That is a beautiful life, and for me, I will do whatever it takes to protect that,” she told Yeargin. PenaVega called herself “hardcore pro-life” and said it should be common sense to understand that the child in the womb is a human being.
