Chicago abortion facility with a history of 911 calls injures another woman

Chicago’s Family Planning Associates (FPA) on West Washington Boulevard has injured another woman, according to a report from Operation Rescue. The woman seems to have survived, but the 911 call appears to indicate that she may have suffered a life-threatening abortion complication.

The botched abortion took place on New Year’s Eve of 2020, with the 27-year-old patient suffering an injury to her uterus. In the 911 call, the staffer requested an ambulance. “We have a patient who just had a surgical abortion,” she said. “We believe that she has an injury to her uterus, and we need an ambulance to go to Northwestern Hospital.”

When the 911 dispatcher asked if the woman was awake and talking, the staffer replied that she was “under sedation,” and that they would have the sedation stopped when the ambulance arrived. The staffer also directed the ambulance to meet them not at the front entrance, but by the loading dock so the stretcher could be brought in through the back.

Laceration or perforation to the uterus or other maternal organs is a known complication of surgical abortions, and it is extremely dangerous. If not properly treated, it can lead to sepsis, hemorrhage, and death.

Injuries at this particular facility are far from rare, with two women injured just days apart last year. An abortionist at the facility, Allison Cowett, has been sued for malpractice at least 10 times. Past medical emergencies at the facility have included aspirating vomit while under sedation, extremely high fevers likely due to infection, a patient who had a cardiac emergency and trouble breathing, several instances of uterine bleeding, and more. It seems clear that this abortion facility is not safe, with at least 11 medical emergencies requiring an ambulance in the past three years, yet it is still allowed to remain open, taking the lives of preborn children and maiming women.
