Cheryl Chastine, an abortionist who trained under late-term abortionist George Tiller, called 911 recently after overdosing an abortion patient on fentanyl.
At American Women’s Medical Center (AWMC) in Des Plaines, Illinois, Chastine committed an abortion on a 34-year-old woman, and gave her fentanyl and midazolam in the process. Unfortunately, clinic staff had difficulty reversing the drugs, leading the woman’s respiratory status to be “pretty questionable,” according to Chastine.
“She is actually coming around, starting to breathe on her own,” she said during the 911 call. “So, let me see… O2 is now at 83. We might be OK, but can I keep you on the line?” A nurse then asked Chastine if she still needed an ambulance; she responded, “I literally don’t know, because I’m waiting on my Narcan, and my, uh… uh… ”
At this point, Chastine trailed off before muttering, “Oh my God.”
The 911 dispatcher asked if the patient was still breathing; Chastine replied that she was not, and that she was giving her rescue breaths. Staff can be heard in the background giving resuscitation attempts before dosing the woman with Narcan; eventually, the patient woke up and was able to breathe on her own.
Numerous women have suffered overdoses at abortion facilities; Laura Hope Smith died in 2007 at the age of 22, and Karnamaya Mongar died in 2009. Perhaps the most notable example is Keisha Atkins, who was drugged multiple times with fentanyl and midazolam at a New Mexico abortion facility before her death. Both of these drugs are known to cause trouble with breathing, and can be dangerous.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), fentanyl is a pain reliever “approved for treating severe pain, typically advanced cancer pain,” and is 50-100 times stronger than morphine. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) describes its side effects as including “sedation, confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting,” and more. Medline explicitly states that fentanyl should only be used to treat cancer pain, and that it can cause “serious breathing problems.”
Midazolam, is used to cause sleepiness before surgery, and according to Medline, ensure the patient will not remember the details of the procedure. Medline also noted that it is known to cause “serious or life-threatening breathing problems such as shallow, slowed, or temporarily stopped breathing that may lead to permanent brain injury or death.”
“The fact that anyone would practice such unbelievably negligent medicine is shocking, but it really is not surprising coming from this so-called family medicine doctor who has made a living traveling around the country killing babies,” Operation Rescue President Troy Newman said in a statement, adding, “Chastine has worked hard to remain under the radar. We caught her trying to hide her identity years ago, and she is still trying to kill babies secretively.”
