Live Action News has previously written about Florida abortionists with sordid histories, as well as one in Arizona who sexually assaulted patients. Unfortunately, these abortionists weren’t alone in their deeds. Below are four more abortionists with similar predatory records.
John Steenbergen – Indianapolis, Indiana, 2016
In 2016, Steenbergen, an Indianapolis doctor, was disciplined after he committed an abortion on a patient he impregnated after an inappropriate doctor/patient sexual relationship.
Steenbergen‘s license was suspended after he admitted to having a sexual relationship with the patient and admitted to committing the abortion by administering Misoprostol (the abortion pill) to the woman. He then paid the patient what appeared to be hush money to keep the her quiet.
A report published by the Indianapolis Business Journal said:
A complaint was filed in September 2015 alleging that [Steenbergen] prescribed controlled substances to a female patient between 2010 and 2014 without keeping records, and engaged in a sexual relationship with this patient. When the patient became pregnant, he performed an abortion outside of his normal business hours and has paid the patient over $250,000 since July 2010…
Steenbergen’s relationship with his patient came to the attention of the Indiana Attorney General’s office, which asked the state medical licensing board in September 2015 to impose disciplinary action. The attorney general’s complaint said Steenbergen was unfit to practice, due to his inappropriate relationship with the patient and his failure to keep proper medical records regarding treatment.
Steenbergen claimed he 1) was not the father of the child and 2) did not begin a sexual relationship with the patient until four months after the abortion; however, for his actions, he was placed on indefinite suspension, according to the state.
Dr. Naresh G. Patel – Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 2015
In 2015, according to NewsOK.com, Oklahoma abortionist Naresh G. Patel, pleaded guilty in a fraud case for selling medication abortions to women who weren’t actually pregnant. Patel reportedly “provided [an] abortion-inducing drug to three female undercover investigators who were posing as patients.”
The report also states that:
Patel came under investigation because of evidence he had done an unnecessary abortion procedure in 2011 for $520. The patient died four months later of cervical cancer…. Patel has been arrested before — in 1993 when a patient accused him of sexually assaulting her.
That sexual assault was detailed by Life Dynamics president Mark Crutcher in his expose of the abortion industry, Lime 5:
On March 25, 1993, “Angela” was having an after-hours abortion performed by [Patel]. She awoke from anesthesia to find him putting his penis into her mouth. He called her several times afterward to find out if she remembered anything about the incident, and she taped the conversation. Police seized her medical records, which were found folded in [Patel’s] desk rather than in her chart. As a result of this incident, [Patel] was charged with attempted forced oral sodomy and sexual battery. He was released on $100,000 bail and left for India in May, claiming that he had to attend the wedding of a niece.
In 2014, NewsOk.com reported that Patel denied her accusation and was acquitted at trial in 1994.
Under a plea deal in the fraud case, Patel was placed on probation for 10 years after serving 18 days — over weekends — at a private correctional facility. He was also to surrender his medical license and pay a $20,000 fine, a $100 victims’ compensation assessment, court costs, and $2,035 in restitution. He also agreed never to hold any interest — directly or indirectly — in any medical clinic in the future, NewsOK stated. In 2015, Patel voluntarily surrendered his medical license.
Dr. Roger Ian Hardy – Massachusetts, 2014
In January 2014, former Planned Parenthood abortionist Roger Ian Hardy was forced to surrender his Massachusetts medical license amid allegations that he sexually molested patients during fertility treatments at Fertility Centers of New England.
Hardy had previously committed abortions for Planned Parenthood facilities in Massachusetts and California, according to Operation Rescue, which noted:
Why Hardy eventually left Planned Parenthood is unknown, but a Boston Globe article published on May 1, 2014, indicates that Hardy’s abhorrent sexual misconduct stretched back as far as 20 years. Hardy was working for Planned Parenthood during that time, in which Planned Parenthood abortion patients were likely exposed to molestation by Hardy as well.
Dr. Thomas William Michaelis – Ohio, 2014
In 2014, Ohio abortion provider Thomas William Michaelis, was indicted on federal charges of receiving and distributing child pornography. He was last known working for a Toledo, Ohio, abortion facility. According to a November 2014 report by the Department of Justice, “Michaelis received and distributed the images between April and May. He possessed and accessed with intent to view one or more web sites which contained depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct between January and May.”
According to a November 2014, media report, “He testified at his sentencing to incidents at his home that involved minor females who were friends with his youngest daughter.
On May of 2014, Michaelis’ license to practice medicine was again revoked and he voluntarily surrendered his license in the state. But the abortion doctor’s medical license had been previously revoked in the early 1990’s for allegations of attempted gross sexual imposition, voyeurism and public indecency.
In that previous case, Michaelis gave testimony that he “watched a minor girl uncover her breasts; attempted to touch another minor girl on the buttocks; attempted to touch a third girl on the breasts; and exposed his penis to a fourth minor girl.”
WTOL reported that they searched public documents and discovered that Michaelis had a history of abusing minors.
Documents state he admitted to sexually explicit crimes involving his teenage daughter’s friends. In 1991, Michaelis was sentenced to 15 months in prison, but ended up serving only 60 days. The State Medical Board of Ohio suspended his license to practice, which was eventually reinstated. His last known place of employment was Capital Care Network, a [abortion] clinic on Sylvania Avenue. A receptionist there says Michaelis has not worked for the company since May.
In the most recent incident, Michaelis pleaded guilty to two counts related to child pornography and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
