Just last month, Live Action News reported on the introduction of new pro-life license plate option for the state of Georgia. But Georgia isn’t the only state in the country that offers a way to spread the message of life while supporting pro-life outreaches. Over 30 states have their own pro-life plates, with more states working to get theirs approved. Choose Life of Florida started the trend back in 1996 in Ocala, Florida. Although the state’s plate option wasn’t approved until 2000, the inspiration behind them had already spread to other states.
As the idea grew, so did Choose Life; it’s now a nationwide movement. Choose Life America, Inc. exists “[t]o help every state get a Choose Life license plate approved, whose proceeds would be used to facilitate and encourage adoption as a positive choice for women with unplanned pregnancies.” A portion of the cost to purchase the license plates is donated either to pregnancy centers or other local pro-life outreaches.

Currently, a majority of the states in the Midwest, the South, Alaska, and Hawaii have all approved the pro-life license plates. California, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island don’t have a complete pro-life plate as an option, but offer a half plate option for purchase. West Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Maine, New Mexico, and several other states have groups working towards approval for their respective plates. Colorado — the home of late-term abortionist Warren Hern — is currently the only state with no pro-life license plate option and no group petitioning for one.
The Choose Life plates have not only helped to fund pregnancy centers and other pro-life outreaches across the country, but they also have touched individual lives in amazing ways. Choose Life America’s website includes several testimonials.
One anonymous story tells of a woman who found a young girl crying by her car in a store parking lot. The girl had been traveling to her abortion appointment with her boyfriend when she needed to stop for a bathroom break. She had doubts about getting the abortion, but was being pressured by her boyfriend. She prayed to God for help out of the situation. However, it wasn’t until she saw the woman’s Choose Life license plate that she had the courage to ask her parents to come and get her and ultimately decided to keep her baby. The woman informing Choose Life about this story explained, “You never know how God will use our smallest actions.”
Patti Logan, executive director of Heart to Heart Pregnancy Support Center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, told Choose Life about a woman whom they were able to help, thanks to funding they receive from the sale of the license plates. “We had another woman from Mexico that had been raped. She was definitely considering adoption,” Logan said. “We helped her with counseling, food, transportation, clothing, and medical bills. She was so grateful, since she had tried to abort the child herself… but did not want to.”
These and so many more women have been positively influenced into choosing life for their babies thanks to the Choose Life license plates. Visit Choose Life America’s website to find out how to get your pro-life plates.
