You might have seen advertisements from companies selling survivalist meal kits to people sometimes referred to as “preppers.” These kits are filled with foods that can be stored for long periods of time without spoilage, to be used during an emergency or natural disaster. Now, apparently, this trend has caught on with abortion profiteers, who are selling abortion “prepper” kits containing the abortion pill.
Medside24.com, one of these questionable abortion profiteers, is selling “Anti-Preg” (or abortion pill “prepper”) kits online. According to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, this profiteer is “operating out of compliance with US federal and state pharmacy laws and practice standard.”
Business Insider reported in 2022 that something like this was coming: “Like survivalists preparing for the apocalypse, ‘vaginal preppers’ have been gearing up for the criminalization of abortion. The term, used to describe community providers stocking up on abortion supplies, was coined by an anonymous abortion activist who spoke to The Atlantic about the phenomenon,”
What’s in the “prepper” kit?
“Prepper kits 3,5,10 (for future use),” or “Anti-Preg Kits,” are described as “a small bulk pack of 3, 5 or 10 abortion kits” at a discounted price. The catch? Medside24.com’s website says the pills “ship from India and take around 3 weeks to be delivered to [the] USA.”
The kit is referred to as “cheaper” than their regular abortion pill products, but with “longer” shipping times. For this reason, the site warns, “Only buy the Prepper kits if you are currently not pregnant.”
Medside24.com claims on its payment and delivery page to “ship from several locations: United States (USPS Rush Delivery) or via India/Dubai.”
The abortion drugs will reportedly arrive shipped in “Discreet packaging without any markings,” and the website claims to “… sell a number of various pills by different manufacturers containing mifepristone.”
According to the image above, the “Anti-preg” abortion pill prepper kit is manufactured in India by Ipas Pharmaceuticals, LTD.
Who’s promoting these kits?
Red State Access’ website not only offers places where women can access the abortion pill, but tells potential clients where they can get “pills in advance” (known as advance provision), linking to Medside24.com’s kits.
“Not pregnant but want pills on hand?” the Red State Access website asks. “Having pills on hand in case of an unplanned pregnancy is an excellent idea in the current American landscape. Community support networks do not provide pills in advance[;] their free services are only for confirmed pregnancies. However, there are many verified, for-profit vendors listed on PlanC that are under $50!”
“There is also an experienced provider that provides 1+8 for $44. (Most for-profit vendors only provide 1+4 so this is a really great service),” Red State Access claims.
Detected by a drug-sniffing dog?
In a recent postal inspection bust out of Jackson, Mississippi, the abortion pill prepper kit was found by a drug sniffing dog.
“The envelope contained five pills labeled ‘AntiPreg Kit.’ They were made in India, and their medical purpose is to induce abortion,” the Intercept reported. “The… investigation came out of a sort of collaboration between the feds’ regional offices and a local official: U.S postal workers and a city K-9 cop. Though no one in Mississippi has yet been arrested for helping carry out an abortion.”
“Why would a police dog alert on abortion pills in the first place, when they’re not narcotics?” the Intercept asked.
According to the Intercept, a “USPIS national spokesperson speculated that the pills found in Jackson were contaminated in the manufacturing process by trace amounts of a drug such as marijuana, or perhaps someone was handling narcotics when they did the packing and left molecules behind that only canines’ super-sensitive noses can detect.”
The sketchiest of sites
In 2022, ABC News claimed that Medside24.com was “based in Kazakhstan and ships medication into the U.S. from overseas,” adding that “The company said it began operations three years ago as an anonymous ‘no questions asked’ way for people to access the drug.”
In August of 2022, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) spoke with an investigator going by the name “Dominique” who contacted the website. She told WSJ, “I wasn’t quite sure who I was speaking to, but according to that person, Medside which according to its registration information, was registered to a PO box in Russia. This person said that the site had been based in Russia, but after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, they had decided to relocate and so they were now based in Almaty in Kazakhstan.
The WSJ report noted, “The websites typically list pills from legitimate drug makers. But when Dominique and her colleague called the drug makers, they said they had no relationship with websites like these. Is it possible that some of these websites might be selling pills that are fake?”
The answer to that question is a resounding YES — if you ask the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
Medside24.com is promoted by PlanCpills.org and is listed on the “not recommended” page of the NABP, along with additional abortion pill websites.
“Beware of fraudulent and unsafe prescription medication sold on websites and social media platforms. Only buy prescription medication from legitimate, verified pharmacies and pharmacy websites,” the NABP website warns.
That “list” is “regularly updated to include websites found to be operating out of compliance with US federal and state pharmacy laws and practice standards,” according to the NABP, which adds, “The Not Recommended List and additional resources for patients on how to safely buy, use, and dispose of medications can be found on our consumer website – www.safe.pharmacy.”
Do customers of these abortion pill “prepper” kits really know what they’re getting? Buyers should beware — for many reasons.
