A newborn baby girl with the umbilical cord still attached was found buried in a flower pot on March 11 at Perry Cemetery in Carollton, Texas. Police are requesting help from the public to identify the baby so they can help give her a proper burial.
“It would seem that whoever placed the baby’s body there also put the flowers,” said police spokeswoman Jolene DeVito.
The baby is thought to have been between 34 weeks gestation and full term, according to the press release distributed on March 27. She weighed almost six pounds. The medical examiner could not determine if she was born alive or was stillborn, and police say they are attempting to figure that out.
A caretaker at the cemetery took notice of the flower pot because it was out of place. When he emptied it, he found the baby girl beneath the soil. Police believe that whoever placed her there, put the body in the pot and planted the flowers on top as if trying to create a burial place for the infant. Police believe the flower pot was placed at the cemetery between February 27 and March 2.
“It would seem that whoever placed the baby’s body there also put the flowers, we just don’t know at this point, which is why we’re appealing to the public, anyone who knows anything that can point us on the direction, we want to hear from you,” said DeVito.
Every state has Safe Haven Laws that allow a woman to anonymously leave her baby at a designated safe location. In the state of Texas, those locations include hospitals, freestanding emergency medical care facilities, fire stations, and EMS stations. Any baby 60 days or younger in Texas can be left at these locations and the woman’s identity doesn’t need to be revealed.
This baby’s death and burial are signs of how badly society is failing women and children. Whether the baby was stillborn or born alive, the mother likely felt the need to hide the child. It is unacceptable that instead of promoting pregnancy help centers and maternity homes, our pro-abortion government agencies and politicians promote killing children through abortion and allowing newly born abortion survivors to die without medical care. This sends the message that children are unworthy and undeserving of the protection of our government and that women should feel ashamed of their pregnancies. If she had been directed to the proper resources available, this mother and child relationship would likely have had a much happier outcome.
