Planned Parenthood has long claimed to be a nationwide health care provider, but rapidly declining legitimate health services and patient numbers along with abortion-related injuries and financial struggles have shown that the self-proclaimed provider of choice for underprivileged women is largely an abortion advocacy group masquerading as a health provider. This so-called health care corporation kills more than 1,000 preborn babies every day.
Abortion numbers
Induced abortions are defined as acts that directly and intentionally cause the death of the preborn child. Planned Parenthood’s annual report shows that it committed 392,715 abortions in 2023.

Simple math shows that when dividing that total (392,715) by 365 days in a year, it works out to 1,076 abortions per day.
Alexis McGill-Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood, claimed in 2024 that 70% of Planned Parenthood abortions are now chemical abortions. This means, said Live Action research fellow Carole Novielli, that in 2022-23, it is likely that nearly 275,000 (274,900) of all Planned Parenthood abortions (392,715) were committed by the deadly abortion pill regimen which includes the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol.

The abortion pill is approved by the FDA for use up to 10 weeks gestation, yet some Planned Parenthood affiliates offer it past this limit, publicly advertising it to 11 weeks. At 11 weeks, the baby is yawning, sucking her thumb, and growing fingernails. Mifepristone will deprive her of the nutrients she needs to grow and survive, and misoprostol will cause contractions that will force her preterm birth — whether she has died in the womb or not. Women have shared their traumatizing stories of holding their babies after taking the abortion pill, with some witnessing their children’s hearts still beating.
Planned Parenthood’s goal is also to spread abortion access globally.
“Planned Parenthood Global has supported litigation strategy across Mexican states…” said its annual report, “…resulting in the legalization of abortion in Quintana Roo up to 12 weeks…” Planned Parenthood has connected women to abortion at both its affiliates and independent abortion businesses through its Abortion Finder site, which was accessed 863,000 times from July 2022 to June 2023. It also helped more than 33,000 women travel for abortions by giving them financial assistance along with travel and transportation support — money that could have supported women in choosing life.
Planned Parenthood claims that intentionally killing preborn children is a form of health care and just one of the many services it provides.
Intentionally killing human beings is not health care and should never be considered as such. As previously reported by Live Action News, Planned Parenthood has reported a 29% increase in abortions over the past decade while its legitimate health care services have been in decline.
Decrease in health services
Over the past decade, Planned Parenthood client numbers decreased by 30%, prenatal care decreased by 68%, contraceptive services decreased by nearly 40%, cancer screenings decreased by 59%, breast care (not including mammograms, which it does not offer) declined by almost 62%, Pap tests dropped almost 60%, and adoption referrals declined by nearly 22%.
The major reason why abortion has dramatically risen and actual health services have declined is spelled out in Planned Parenthood’s mission statement: to “provide leadership, advocacy and education in the field of reproductive health care.” In other words, the central work of Planned Parenthood is to advocate for legalized abortion, be a leader in the pro-abortion movement, and educate (though with false information) on so-called “reproductive health care,” ie: abortion.
Fundamentally, Planned Parenthood is focused on abortion.
Millions in taxpayer dollars
Abortion wasn’t the only thing to increase at Planned Parenthood as health care services dramatically declined. Taxpayer revenue rose for the abortion giant as well. In 2023, Planned Parenthood exceeded previous taxpayer funding by over 4% from the prior year, up to nearly $700 million.
There are ways that the government can cease sending millions of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood and finally defund the abortion corporation. With approximately 15,000 federally qualified health centers in the United States outnumbering Planned Parenthood facilities 25 to 1, there are plenty of centers that the government could redirect the money to and plenty of options for women to seek out true medical care.
