Planned Parenthood has long been known as the nation’s leading abortion provider, holding 40% of the nation’s market share in the killing of preborn human beings. But Planned Parenthood has also become one of the leading providers of transgender “services” in the way of cross-sex hormones and even surgery referrals for teens and they hope to continue expanding them for minors. What’s worse is that Planned Parenthood’s business is boosted by approximately $700 million in taxpayer funding every year.
Detransitioner Helena Kerschner has actively spoken out against the so-called “care” she received at Planned Parenthood. Testifying before lawmakers in Kentucky in 2023, Kerschner shared that anxiety, social media, and a history of family issues led her to believe that she needed testosterone in order to “transition” from female to male. She said:
I made an appointment at a Planned Parenthood a few weeks after my 18th birthday. The appointment took about one hour and none of the clinicians I saw were interested in what was behind my desperation to change my body.
They told me that because I seemed “so sure,” they would forgo doing blood tests and prescribe the hormones that day. I told the clinicians that I wanted a high dose, because I wanted to see more changes in my body. They agreed, and prescribed me 100mg of testosterone per week.
According to the New York Post, Kerschner has said she was given four times the typical starting dose of testosterone by a nurse practitioner in less than an hour, without ever seeing a doctor.
Rather than bringing her the relief she sought, the testosterone sent her mental health spiraling:
Very soon, I began to experience drastic changes to my emotions. I physically lost the ability to cry; when the desire arose my body refused to produce tears. I began experiencing uncontrollable episodes of rage and paranoia, where I was a danger to myself and others. I lost control over my body in many ways.
This had an extremely negative effect on my mental health, and unfortunately I blamed it on myself and believed I had developed a new mental illness. After about eight to 10 months on the testosterone, these episodes of what can only be described as delusion escalated and I was hospitalized.
I was hospitalized twice due to the effects testosterone had on my mind and body.
Kerschner’s story is just one shared by Transition Justice, which highlights several individuals who have been harmed by Planned Parenthood’s hasty encouragement of individuals toward cross-sex hormones and gender surgeries. Kerschner is featured in the following video:
TRAs argue that it takes years of therapy to obtain cross-sex hormones or receive gender surgeries. Why then, are so many young women reporting they were prescribed hormones and even surgery after 1 visit with Planned Parenthood? @PPFA, are you aware of the harm you're doing?… pic.twitter.com/buHwwSsgc2

Thankfully, Kerschner eventually recognized the harm that testosterone was doing to her body, and she decided to go through the detransition process. She told the lawmakers:
Not only was my life in serious danger due to the reckless and nonsensical prescription of testosterone, but the mental process of undoing that harmful belief system, putting the pieces of my life back together after the events I have described here in modest detail, and facing the emotional issues that made me vulnerable to this in the first place, has been a long and painful process that I have yet to fully complete.
Kerschner’s story demonstrates a lack of care for the true health of patients visiting Planned Parenthood. Taxpayers shouldn’t be propping up this corporation. It’s time to defund Planned Parenthood.
