Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, receives nearly $700 million annually in taxpayer dollars. While it bills itself as a provider of routine healthcare, its annual reports have long revealed that it’s the killing of preborn children — not healthcare — that dominates the organization’s business model.
Given this, it is unsurprising that women have testified that Planned Parenthood has coerced them and pressured them into believing that abortion is their only option.
Dusty’s story: They ignored her tears and obvious fear
Dusty Johns recounted being pressured to abort her preborn child when she was in her early 20s. Despite her clear hesitation, she received no help or support from Planned Parenthood.
“From the moment we walked in the clinic doors, there was little to no eye contact, no comforting touches, no reaffirming questions like, ‘Are you sure you want to do this? Are you okay?’ even when they could see me crying and shaking in fear. I found this bizarre,” she explained, “because as nurses we pride ourselves on providing comfort and being perceptive. Not these nurses.”
After the abortionist walked in the room, Johns panicked, but was unable to articulate that she wanted to stop the abortion.
“What came next is a sound that I will never forget,” she said, continuing (emphasis added):
I wasn’t prepared for how loud the vacuum would be. I remember trying to tell them to STOP as soon as it turned on, but the drugs were stronger than my body and even if I could have spoken, no one would have heard me.
I knew that the nurse or my boyfriend had to have seen me struggling to speak, but neither one of them spoke up for me as my precious baby was rapidly dismembered and sucked from my body.
Ayanna’s story: The abortionist ignored her request to stop, and botched the abortion
Ayanna Byer filed a lawsuit against Planned Parenthood after it committed an abortion on her baby in 2013, an abortion to which which Byer says she did not consent.
Planned Parenthood staff told Byer she was too far along for the abortion pill and had to receive a surgical abortion procedure instead. Byer consented, provided she be given an anesthesia IV ahead of time. When the IV failed to work, Byer requested the abortionist stop the procedure, but he ignored her request. The lawsuit stated (emphases added):
At this time, Plaintiff immediately told the Planned Parenthood Doctor to stop and that she did not want to go through with the abortion procedure because she had not received any anesthetic. Plaintiff also informed Planned Parenthood Doctor and agents or employees of Planned Parenthood Defendants that she believed this to be a sign she should not go through with the abortion.
The Planned Parenthood Doctor did not stop despite Plaintiff’s request, and assured Plaintiff the I.V. would be administered and the procedure would only take a few minutes.
At this time, the Planned Parenthood Doctor turned on the vacuum machines and told Plaintiff it was too late to stop.
The abortion procedure was botched, as parts of Byer’s preborn baby were left inside her, resulting in a subsequent infection and the need for emergency surgery.
Nancy’s story: They forced her to consent to fetal ‘research,’ then physically ‘pushed’ her back down
Nancy Tanner was at Planned Parenthood for an abortion appointment when the intake nurse had her fill out a form, which Tanner realized was a consent for her preborn child’s remains to be used for scientific research.
Tanner hesitated, but was pressured to sign. Before the procedure began, she said she had a change of heart and wanted to leave — but Planned Parenthood staff forced her to continue against her will:
I said I didn’t want to sign it (the fetal tissue donation consent form) and they said I had to or I couldn’t have the abortion. I didn’t want my baby to be used for scientific research and I was told, “Don’t worry, it’s not a baby.”
I told her I had two daughters already and I knew what a baby was. She said, “We don’t think its a baby.”
I had changed my mind. I was looking for a way out of going through with the abortion, so I thought about just not signing the (fetal tissue donation) consent form. But the Planned Parenthood Staffer told me “what you think of as a “baby” will be used for something good.”
So I signed the form. I was on the table, but wanted to leave and I was pushed back down. They said it was too late to change my mind.
Patricia’s story: “I was raped by Planned Parenthood”
Patricia shared the story of being forced into an abortion at Planned Parenthood when she was just 16 years old. She wrote:
I was terrified while in the office of Planned Parenthood and with a frantic plea to not make me go through with the abortion it fell upon deaf ears and hardened hearts[;] they removed me to a room and proceeded to force the abortion on me.
No one protected me that day or listened to my cries! The very fact that they ignored them and still did the abortion violated me down to the core.
I have experienced rape and I would say I was raped by Planned Parenthood physically and mentally of my life and my child’s life that day in 1979.
Former Planned Parenthood workers have shared that the organization maintains “abortion quotas” that its affiliates are forced to meet, even going so far as to offer incentives to encourage its employees to meet those quotas. It is unconscionable that staff members have ignored the pleas of women, instead pressuring them to kill their children.
An organization that coerces women into killing their preborn children against their will does not deserve a dime of taxpayer dollars. It’s time to defund Planned Parenthood.
