On Friday, Donald J. Trump will become the 45th President of the United States.
Friday will also be the day Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will have the opportunity to begin to keep their promises to defund Planned Parenthood, nominate pro-life justices to the Supreme Court, sign into law the Pain-Capable Unborn Protection Act, and make sure the Hyde Amendment is here to stay.
As responsible pro-life voters, we must hold Trump accountable to the promises he made to the American people.
In his letter addressed to pro-life leaders, Trump vowed his administration will be “advocates for the unborn and their mothers every day we are in the White House.” To not follow through with any or all of his promises listed above would be devastating to the voters who elected him into office; but more importantly, to the thousands of preborn children who die every day at the hands of abortion facilities like Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion corporation.
Statistics show that the majority of Americans want to see Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding redirected to comprehensive health clinics —and for good reasons. The corporation engages in the biggest human rights injustice of our generation: ending the lives of the preborn. In addition, the abortion giant has been exposed for its many abuses against women and children.
Live Action recently released a video exposing the abortion giant’s cover-up of child sex trafficking. In the video, Ramona Trevino, a former Planned Parenthood manager, tells how the abortion giant announced to the public that they would retrain staff to help identify cases of sex trafficking. Instead, Planned Parenthood lied to media, and a meeting was held to train staff on how to identify undercover investigators.
With the defunding of Planned Parenthood, taxpayer money can appropriately go to fund thousands of federally qualified health centers that do not protect child sex traffickers.
Another important reason Planned Parenthood needs to be defunded this year is because of the undercover videos exposing the abortion corporation’s harvesting of baby body parts.
In 2015, the Center for Medical Progress released a handful of revealing undercover videos showing how Planned Parenthood harvests aborted baby parts. As a result, Congress voted to defund the abortion giant — and it must happen again with the newly-elected pro-life Congress.
“Not only has Mr. Trump doubled down on his three existing commitments to the pro-life movement, he has gone a step further in pledging to protect the Hyde Amendment and the conscience rights of millions of pro-life taxpayers,” said Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of the Susan B. Anthony List.
The pro-life movement must ensure that Trump will follow through with his promise to the American people, and that promise starts by ending taxpayer subsidies to Planned Parenthood.
