Live Action held an online national prayer vigil on Monday, November 4, the eve of the 2024 presidential election. Participants prayed for God’s mercy on the United States, for the nation’s politicians and leaders, for pregnant women, for preborn children, for families facing challenges during pregnancy, for strong marriages, for persecuted and imprisoned pro-life activists, for a culture of life to prevail in America, and for an end to abortion.
David Bereit, founder of 40 Days for Life, kicked off the prayer vigil on YouTube, introducing Live Action president and founder Lila Rose. Also helping to lead the vigil were Father Mike Schmitz, speaker, author, and host of the Bible in a Year podcast; Father Ambrose Criste of St. Michael’s Abbey; Albert Mohler, Jr., president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; Live Action spokesperson Christina Bennett; Alan Sears, founder of Alliance Defending Freedom; OB/GYN Dr. Kathi Aultman; abortion survivor and founder of the Abortion Survivors Network, Melissa Ohden; Christian speaker and author Lisa Bevere; Lt. Gov. of Florida Jeanette Nuñez; Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, the Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington; pastor and podcast host Jeremy Vuolo; and Father Dave Pivonka, president of Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Fr. Ambrose prayed for God to “move hearts and through the power of the blood of your Son; please wash us and save us and change those hearts that need to be changed so that all of the little ones can be protected and come to birth and come to know salvation.” He asked for protection over the election, the voters, and the candidates.
Next, Rev. Mohler prayed for God’s will to be done in the 2024 election, and that God would vindicate the lives of those who have been aborted.
Bennett then prayed for the people in states with pro-abortion amendments on the ballot, to vote for life and to have their eyes opened to the evil and horror of abortion.
Next, Bishop Burbidge asked God to pour His grace on our elected officials and inspire in them a desire to know God and to do what is good, right, and just.
Following the bishop, Bevere prayed that when people go to the polls, they will vote for life. She thanked God for being our “rescuer” and for the “outpouring of courage” for mothers and fathers.
Fr. Pivonka then reflected on Ephesians 6:12, which says, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Sears, who is also a Live Action board member, asked specifically for prayers for Arizona and Proposition 139, which, if passed, would create a false ‘right’ to abortion in the state constitution. He also prayed for those who provide care for pregnant women and babies, and for imprisoned pro-life advocates.
Dr. Aultman, a former abortionist who is now pro-life, thanked God for opening her eyes to the horrors of abortion, and helping her to stop committing abortions. She prayed that He would open the eyes of all abortionists and give them compassion for the preborn children they are murdering, to see them as the people they are.
Lt. Gov. Nuñez spoke out against Florida’s Amendment 4 and prayed that God would heal the U.S. and that Florida would be shielded from evil. She also prayed for the protection of Live Action, Lila Rose, and everyone on the call, and that God would provide them all with guidance, expose the truth about the dangers of Amendment 4, and convict Floridians to vote against it.
Fr. Schmitz then prayed for a transformation of the culture and for those who have served the pro-life cause. He prayed for elected officials to have a sense of compassion and justice as well as respect for human life. He prayed for couples dealing with infertility, those in challenging pregnancies, and families who struggle to be patient, to forgive, and to be kind to each other.
Vuolo offered prayers for God to direct the U.S. on election day and give wisdom abundantly to voters. He asked that the elected politicians would advance the cause of life, not death, and put into law protections for preborn children and vulnerable individuals.
Bereit also prayed with a “heavy heart,” offering the “staggering death toll” from abortion and the women wounded by abortion. He prayed for a conversion of heart for all Americans. He also asked God to forgive the sins of Americans, of abortionists, of pro-abortion advocates, and for pro-life politicians who have not followed through on their pro-life life promises.
Ohden, an abortion survivor, prayed for life to triumph in both the national and local elections. She prayed that God would grant politicians the wisdom and strength to protect life and be converted from pro-abortion beliefs. Ohden also prayed for a united pro-life movement that will seek out God no matter the result of the election to create a culture of life.
Rose closed the vigil by thanking God for the gift of life and praying for victory against abortion in each of the 10 states that have abortion on the ballot — Florida, Missouri, Colorado, Arizona, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, and South Dakota. She prayed for those still deciding who to vote for, and asked God to have mercy on the nation.
