These fraternal twins in Connecticut were born in different years
A Connecticut family welcomed twins who were born on two separate days, in two separate months, and in two different years.
Mykel and Aliyah Kiyomi Morris of Hamden, Connecticut, welcomed a baby girl and boy at Yale New Haven Hospital, according to NBC CT. Baby boy Seven Morris was born at 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2023 weighing six pounds and nine ounces. His sister Souli Morris, was born three minutes later at 12:02 a.m. on January 1, 2024 also weighing six pound and nine ounces.
“[Seven] was easily the last recorded birth at YNHH in 2023 as YNHH only records births to the minute, not seconds,” a hospital representative said. The babies and their mother are reportedly “doing great and getting some well-deserved rest,” according to the hospital.
Seven and Souli weren’t the only twins to have such unique birthdays, however.

In New Jersey, twin brothers Ezra and Ezekiel Humphrey were born at Virtua Voorhees Hospital. Ezra was born at 11:48 p.m. on December 31, and Ezekiel was born at 12:28 a.m. on January 1 to Billy and Even Humphrey. To add the to the fun, Billy’s birthday is also December 31.
“I think it’s going to be hard for them to convince people. They’re going to ask when’s your birthday. One’s going to say December. One’s going to say January,” Eve Humphrey said. “Then, they’re going to say, ‘We’re twins,’ and people are going to say, ‘You’re lying.'”
Last year, a Texas family welcomed twin girl Annie Jo and Effie Rose in two different years as well. Annie Jo was born at 11:55 p.m on December 31, 2022 while her sister Effie Rose was born on January 1, 2023. Both weighed five pounds and five ounces.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 120,000 twin births occur each year in the United States, accounting for 3% of all births in the nation. In 2021, there were 114,161 twin births in the U.S. Between 1980 and 2021 rose from 18.9 twin births per 1,000 births to 31.2 likely due to the increased use of fertility treatments. However, twin births in different years are rare.
