Lin-Manuel Miranda, the songwriter and composer behind hits like Broadway’s “Hamilton,” and Disney’s “Encanto” and “Moana,” has commissioned a new play in an effort to promote abortion — and has made it available for anyone to download, perform, and adapt — at no cost.
Playbill, which publishes news on the theatre industry, reported that Miranda, through the Miranda Family Fund, commissioned “Everything You Need to Know About Abortion in One Hour or Less” from The Wish Collective. In the play, an educator at a present-day Oklahoma high school on the verge of retirement spends her last day on campus educating her students about abortion — how to get one, how to help people who are getting abortions, and how to get abortion pills in the mail.
To “commission” a play means that an organization will pay a playwright for the writing of the script, with the understanding that the organization will have first rights to the play. In this case, the Miranda Family Fund paid for the play to be created and then made it available at no cost.
Miranda specifically sought out The Wish Collective, a theatre company dedicated to creating pro-abortion works.

“Reproductive freedom, access to reproductive healthcare, and the freedom to access information about reproductive healthcare is a fundamental human right and needs to be protected,” Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda and Luis A. Miranda Jr. — Lin-Manuel Miranda’s parents — said in a joint statement. “It is with tremendous pride that our family stands in support of the great work of The Wish Collective, and that this important play be available for all to read, perform, stage, or adapt for free.”
The Miranda family is deeply political and pro-abortion. Luis Miranda Jr. is a political strategist who has served as a consultant to pro-abortion politicians like New York Attorney General Letitia James. Luz Towns-Miranda, meanwhile, has a doctorate in clinical psychology and serves on the board of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Lin-Manuel Miranda is also a pro-abortion activist who gave away free tickets to “Hamilton” for a $10 donation to Planned Parenthood.
It seems unlikely, given the Miranda family’s ardent support for abortion, that the play will include information women actually should know about abortion.
For example, a first trimester chemical abortion is reportedly four times riskier than a first trimester surgical abortion, and comes with serious potential complications, including incomplete abortion and sepsis. First trimester suction abortions may cause uterine or cervical injuries, hemorrhaging, and more. Second trimester D&E abortions, in which an abortionist uses sopher clamps to dismember the child limb by limb while he is still alive, also carry an even greater risk of cervical laceration or uterine perforation. Women are rarely told the risks and potential complications, either physical or emotional, of abortion; they have also been lied to about the humanity of their preborn children, who are alive and likely begin to feel pain by the end of the first trimester.
Women often don’t know what an abortion actually involves, are unaware of alternatives to abortion, and are not helped to heal from an abortion afterward.
