Hundreds of people turned out to protest a proposed Planned Parenthood facility in Fontana, California, on June 2.
According to the Fontana Herald News, though the facility is still in the very early stages of planning, it is already drawing a strong response from pro-lifers in the area who do not want the abortion business in their town. People from area churches, including Bethel Christian Fellowship and St. Joseph Catholic Church, joined together to participate in the march, many holding signs saying things like “Let God Plan Parenthood” and “Pray to End Abortion.”
“As Christians, we must stand up for the most vulnerable among us, including the unborn,” said Daniel Vasquez, the pastor of Calvary Chapel Fontana. “Abortion is the taking of a human life, and it is always wrong. We must work to create a culture of life, where every child is loved and valued, and where mothers are supported and empowered to choose life for their babies.”
The proposed facility would commit abortions, though Planned Parenthood contends that it will also offer a range of other health care services.
“Fontana is a medically underserved community, and it’s important to ensure that residents can get comprehensive health care,” claimed Nichole Ramirez, the senior vice president of communication and donor relations for Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties.
However, though this is an argument the abortion business routinely makes, its own reports show that abortion continues to be the driving force behind its profits, while its legitimate health care services are decreasing.
Monique Carter, the City of Fontana communications and marketing manager, told the Herald News that the city is still in the process of considering Planned Parenthood’s proposal. “The project is currently under staff review,” she said on June 6. “At present, no definitive hearing date has been determined.”
The strong pro-life presence speaking out against a new abortion facility is the kind of grassroots activism that can make a difference, even in states that are heavily pro-abortion like California. Last year, a similar outcry led Planned Parenthood to drop its plans for a new facility in the city of Visalia.
