The unsung hero of Super Bowl LVIII, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, scored 13 of the team’s 25 points, pushing them into overtime and helping lead them to victory on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. He even set the record for the longest field goal in Super Bowl history with his 57-yard kick in the third quarter. In addition to his champion status on the field, Butker is also a champion for the preborn.
“I want to give the most vulnerable, the unborn, a voice at a place where every effort has been made to allow and normalize the tragic termination of their lives,” said Butker in a 2023 press release.

In 2022, as Kansas prepared to vote on a pro-life amendment that ultimately failed — the “Value Them Both Amendment” — Butker appeared in a Catholic Vote commercial in support of the amendment. That amendment would have confirmed that the Kansas state constitution does not secure a so-called “right to abortion” or require the government (taxpayer) funding of abortion. Instead, opponents deceptively (and successfully) painted the amendment as a ban on abortion.
After winning Super Bowl LVII in 2023, the Chiefs were invited to the White House, which Butker used as an opportunity to show his pro-life values and stand up for preborn children. He partnered with Live Action to create a custom tie that he wore with his suit to meet with President Biden. The tie was custom-made and embroidered with the words, “Protect the most vulnerable” written in Latin: “Protegite Indefenso.” He also wore a baby feet lapel pin, sending a powerful message to the most pro-abortion presidential administration in U.S. history. In the past, Butker has also shared personal experiences that have helped solidify his decision to speak in defense of preborn lives, explaining, “As a father who has experienced three miscarriages, my wife and I understand the hardships that come with losing a child. Every life is precious and should be valued whether outside or inside the womb.”
Butker seems ready to continue using his platform for good. In 2022, he spoke to the Catholic News Agency about his values, including why he will always speak up for his Catholic faith and preborn lives. “I think God has definitely given me a platform. He’s given me a voice for a lot of people that aren’t able to voice their opinions. I put so much into being the best kicker I can possibly be and for whatever reason, God has allowed me to continue to be successful as a kicker. I’m so thankful for that. My success in football has given me a pedestal and I feel a responsibility to raise awareness to different issues that I think God wants me to bring to the forefront.”
