Metro Detroit pregnancy resource center to open next to abortion facility

Pregnancy Aid, a pregnancy resource center in Metro Detroit, will soon begin offering free services and counseling next door to an Eastpointe abortion facility. Right to Life Michigan reports that the pro-life group began looking to rent property next to the abortion center years ago, and over the past year they successfully purchased a neighboring building and began the process of renovating and getting appropriate permits and licensing.

The building used to be owned by a dentist who retired in recent years. Pregnancy Aid approached the dentist years ago about renting the building, but after his retirement, the dentist surprised the pregnancy resource center by offering to sell them the property. According to Right to Life Michigan, recent cuts to state funding for pregnancy resource centers took away a third of Pregnancy Aid’s funding. Despite this setback, the group decided to take the opportunity, and the board decided to move forward with the purchase.

Pro-life sidewalk counselors regularly pray and offer information to women seeking abortions at the Eastpointe location. The appeal of having a building would be having an immediate way to offer women more comprehensive counseling, free ultrasounds, and access to education and resources. With a building next door to the abortion facility, Pregnancy Aid will be able to offer more to mothers considering abortion without having to send them to a different location.

As Pregnancy Aid completes the process of renovating and painting the building, the Knights of Columbus are working to ensure that the center is equipped to provide ultrasound at no cost to mothers. Pregnancy Aid is hoping to open the building to clients by April or May of 2020.

Although abortion activists claim to be “pro-choice,” the reality is that abortion businesses are not places that offer mothers choices; they only offer abortion. Pregnancy resource centers are able to properly screen clients to offer help for victims of human trafficking or abuse, provide information about placing a child for adoption, or connect mothers with resources to parent.
