Missouri becomes sixth state to investigate Planned Parenthood

As Live Action News has reported, up until Friday evening, there were five states as well as the top leaders of Congress investigating Planned Parenthood. Missouri recently became the sixth.

These investigations came in the wake of a video released on Tuesday by the Center for Medical Progress. In that video, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood Federation of America was shown discussing Planned Parenthood’s business of fetal parts, from aborted babies, with actors posing as potential buyers. The abortion technique described by Nucatola refers to the illegal partial-birth abortion.

Although Planned Parenthood president and CEO Cecile Richards apologized for the “tone” of Nucatola, she defended Planned Parenthood, including with the term “compassion,” denounced her organization’s critics, and did not address the partial-birth abortion technique.

The investigation from Missouri comes from Republican state House Representatives Andrew Koenig and Diane Franklin. Koenig chairs the House Ways and Means Committee and Franklin the House Children and Families Committee.

Missouri Senator Kurt Schaefer also wrote to the Attorney General Chris Koster on July 15 about the video, imploring him to:

…use your authority granted under Chapter 407 to immediately conduct an investigation into whether the horrifying and criminal activity described on video by a national executive at Planned Parenthood are occurring in Missouri.

Sen. Schaefer closes his letter by saying “it is legally and morally imperative that you investigate and bring any violators to justice.”

Last week, House Republican leadership in Virginia called for investigating Planned Parenthood in their state, but unfortunately Governor Terry McAuliffe, a pro-abortion Democrat, was opposed.

If there is any signs of encouragement to come out of these horrific, but not surprising allegations, it is that six states so far and Congressional leadership are finally ready and willing to investigate Planned Parenthood so quickly and seriously.

As Live Action president and founder Lila Rose has said, “[t]his latest expose of Planned Parenthood’s trafficking of baby parts for profit should be the final nail in the coffin for the abortion  giant.”
