NARAL’s new message: Abortion is funny

NARAL Pro-Choice America is one of the nation’s loudest abortion advocacy groups, and they recently put out a video. While it contains a few messages, two really stand out. The first is that fetuses are people. The second? Aborting them is hilarious.

Called “Comedians in Cars Getting Abortions,” the production follows HBO’s Alice Wetterlund as she goes to an abortion facility. During the trip, Wetterlund explains, “I want an abortion because my body is doing a thing right now— that is not incubating a person— and I would like it to continue doing that thing.” Obviously, this implies pregnant women actually do start incubating people at some point — NARAL just doesn’t say when.

They might think it’s when a heartbeat first appears; that’s less than a month following conception. Or perhaps it’s at 10 weeks, when a baby has unique fingerprints. Maybe it’s at 20, when research indicates a baby can feel pain. Dr. Anthony Levatino is an obstetrician-gynecologist who’s done over 1,200 abortions, and in the clip below, he explains what an abortion at that stage consists of.

After the amniotic fluid is removed, the abortionist uses a sopher clamp — a grasping instrument with rows of sharp “teeth” — to grasp and pull the baby’s arms and legs, tearing the limbs from the child’s body.

The abortionist continues to grasp intestines, spine, heart, lungs, and any other limbs or body parts. The most difficult part of the procedure is usually finding, grasping and crushing the baby’s head.

After removing pieces of the child’s skull, the abortionist uses a curette to scrape the uterus and remove the placenta and any remaining parts of the baby.

But while it’s not clear when NARAL believes a “fetus” becomes a “person”— it doesn’t matter: they’re against protecting her at any point.

Dear Reader,

Every day in America, more than 2,800 preborn babies lose their lives to abortion.

That number should break our hearts and move us to action.

Ending this tragedy requires daily commitment from people like you who refuse to stay silent.

Millions read Live Action News each month — imagine the impact if each of us took a stand for life 365 days a year.

Right now, we’re urgently seeking 500 new Life Defenders (monthly donors) to join us before the end of October. And thanks to a generous $250,000 matching grant, your first monthly gift will be DOUBLED to help save lives and build a culture that protects the preborn.

Together, we can end abortion and create a future where every child is cherished and every mother is supported.

The video also has a number of jokes. In one of them, Wetterlund sees a crying  child and then remarks, “Yeah, we don’t need more of those in the world.” Apparently dead-kid-humor is an acquired taste.

However, even if you’re not laughing, the abortion industry still has reason to smile. Why? Simple: They’ve got your money.

Every year, over half a billion of your tax dollars go to Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion chain. You can tell Congress that money should go to federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) and community health centers (CHCs) instead. Not only do they provide affordable care, they offer more than Planned Parenthood does. FQHCs do more than five hundred thousand mammograms annually. Planned Parenthood? None.

By the end of their video, I got the sense NARAL is just out to provoke pro-lifers. Let’s hope they succeed.
