A new bill submitted to the New York Assembly in November seeks to force State University of New York (SUNY) schools to provide the abortion pill to students. The proposed law would also require a fund, comprised of both public and private money, to be established to finance the abortion pill on all campuses.
While the abortion industry claims the abortion pill is safe, it is impossible to know the true dangers of the two-pill regimen that kills a developing child because nearly half of all states do not report complications that occur after a woman takes it. However, it is known that in states that do report on the complications of the abortion pill, incomplete abortions were the most common complication, which includes severe bleeding and infection, as well as the need for a surgical abortion. In addition, at least 24 women have died after taking the abortion pill. Handing college women the abortion pill and sending them back to their dorm is not safe or respectful of women.
“You’re not providing actual patient care in a student health environment with a doctor-patient relationship ongoing,” Jim Harden, CEO of CompassCare, explained. “There’s follow up that’s required, there’s monitoring that’s required, and all of this is extracted from the women’s experience on campus. It’s dangerous for her.”
In fact, the bill allows for a third party contracted with SUNY to give the abortion pill to these young women.

The executive director of Feminists Choosing Life of New York, Michele Sterlace-Accorsi, pointed out that instead of focusing money on abortion, SUNY should be helping pregnant and parenting women access the resources they need to be successful. There will be women who don’t want abortions, but because of the abortion industry myth that women can’t be students and mothers at the same time, these women will feel pressured to abort.
“What it doesn’t help finance are campus child care centers, any kind of desperately needed pre-natal care; these are the impediments that interfere with women’s ability again to carry an unplanned pregnancy to term, to choose life for their children, and also have a career,” she said.
Planned Parenthood supports the bill, despite the fact that it does not provide any actual options for pregnant women on campus — only abortion. Robin Scappele Golston, president of Planned Parenthood Empire Acts, said that the bill is important in order to expand abortion to women who may not have access to it. She doesn’t appear concerned about the women who want to keep their babies but don’t have access to actual care such as prenatal care, health insurance, or childcare. Meanwhile, her organization could quite possibly be lining up to be that third party presence on SUNY campuses prescribing the abortion pill and financially gaining from the deaths of preborn human beings.
