NFL Hall of Fame Football coach Tony Dungy reaffirmed his commitment to protecting life recently, as he posted a tweet maintaining that the true Christian faith does not support abortion.
Dungy was responding to a tweet by Vice President Kamala Harris, who claimed that religion should not hinder anyone from supporting abortion.
“One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree: The government, and certainly Donald Trump, should not be telling a woman what to do with her body,” she said in her statement.
Dear VP Harris: I hear you make this statement all the time. Exactly what “faith” are you talking about when you say you don’t have to abandon it to support abortion? Are you talking about the Christian faith that says all babies are made in the image of God (Gen 1:26), that God… https://t.co/Lo7v8V4wRm

Dungy fired back at the claim using Biblical quotes.
“Dear VP Harris: I hear you make this statement all the time. Exactly what ‘faith’ are you talking about when you say you don’t have to abandon it to support abortion? Are you talking about the Christian faith that says all babies are made in the image of God (Gen 1:26), that God places them in the womb (Jer 1:5) and that we should not take any life unjustly (Luke 18:20)?
“Are you talking about that faith or some nebulous, general ‘faith’ that says we’re good enough, and smart enough to make our own decisions? What ‘faith’ are you talking about?”
Dungy has long been vocal about his support for life. He previously called out a minister who had expressed support for abortion.
“When you say ‘a minister’ does that mean they represent a church? I’d like to know what book the candidate uses as their foundation for truth and their guiding principles? It couldn’t be the Bible,” Dungy tweeted in 2020.
He and his wife, Lauren, have also put their commitment to life into practice, fostering over 100 children throughout their 40 years of marriage. They are also the parents of 11 children, eight of whom are adopted. In 2019, the couple wrote a book celebrating adoption, called “We Chose You: A Book about Adoption, Family, and Forever Love.”
“God knows us before we even come out of our mother’s womb. And we thought that was really necessary for young people to understand, that God had a plan for you,” Tony told the TODAY show of he and his wife’s adoption journey. “We’ve got seven in our house right now we feel like He put in our family. It wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t any miscommunication. God had planned for them to be with us.”
