Philip Rivers, the quarterback who played for nearly 20 years in the NFL, has announced that he has welcomed his 10th child with wife Tiffany. Rivers, who now works as a high school football coach in Alabama, has said that each child the couple welcomes is a miracle.
In an interview with AL.com, he said his newest son, Andrew, was born last Monday. “It’s awesome. Tiffany is awesome,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s the first child or the 10th child. It’s an awesome miracle every time. Everyone is home now, and everyone is good.” He also explained that both of his parents were born into large families; his mother and his father were each one of nine children.
“We thought we would be the third generation of nine, but we decided to go double digits – or I should say we didn’t decide it. God decided,” he said.
Rivers played for the San Diego Chargers for 16 years, and finished his final season in the NFL in 2021 with the Indianapolis Colts. Even in his retirement statement, he honored his faith; Rivers is known to be a devout Catholic. “Every year, January 20th is a special and emotional day. It is St. Sebastian’s Feast day, the day I played in the AFC championship without an ACL, and now the day that after 17 seasons, I’m announcing my retirement from the National Football League,” the statement read. “Thank you, God, for allowing me to live out my childhood dream of playing quarterback in the NFL.”
In addition to his large family, Rivers has been an outspoken advocate for both foster children and the preborn. He previously ran a charity, the Rivers of Hope Foundation, which helped to lend support to foster families. “If we can get one child with a forever family, it’s worth it,” he said in a previous Celebrate Life interview. “Every life is precious. And also those unwanted are the unborn. Our foundation expands the culture of life to crisis pregnancy centers. There’s a mission to protect the unwanted and abandoned. It’s all intertwined.”
