For the past ten years, committed pro-lifers have earnestly prayed in front of the Supreme Court for the ending of abortion. You’ve seen the images of them standing with eyes ablaze, lips sealed with red tape declaring the word ‘LIFE.’ These intercessors are part of a grassroots international prayer movement called Bound4Life.
For a decade, young and old have gathered alongside this devoted group to join them in praying for justice for the unborn. On Jan. 21, Bound4Life along with the Radiance Foundation and Online for Life will be holding a prayer and worship gathering that is the first of its kind.
OneVoiceDC is a prayer and worship meeting with a vision to end abortion. The event is evangelical, non-denominational, and open to all who desire to attend. OneVoiceDC was birthed from partnerships with trusted pro-life organizations, such as Students for Life of America, Stand True, the National Black Pro-Life Coalition, Alliance Defending Freedom, Americans United for Life, 40 Days for Life, and others.
The theme of the event is centered on three things: pray, worship, and march.
Why are these three things so important?
Prayer is a an agent of change in our society. At OneVoiceDC, a cry will be released for the healing of our nation. There will be a time of repentance, asking God to forgive our sins and heal our hearts. Prayer is not a formality before we get to the important work. Prayer is the most important work. As David Bereit, national director of 40 Days for Life, said:
After 42 years of abortion in America, our land is in desperate need of healing. 2 Chronicles 7:14 tells us that if we humble ourselves, pray and seek God’s face, He will hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our Land. That’s exactly why OneVoice DC is such an important event at this crucial moment in history.
Worship is more than singing songs. Worship is a sacrificial offering. Remember the worship songs of the Civil Rights movement? Blacks gathered by the hundreds and sang, ‘We Shall Overcome,’ prophetically declaring the freedom that was to come.
When they sang, they testified that their God was big enough to deliver them from institutionalized racism. As the slaves in days of old sang hymns to their Creator, sweet songs of praise arose in the midst of their sufferings. Worship catches God’s attention. Worship moves God’s heart.
Marching makes a statement before Heaven and on Earth. Look at the marches we’ve seen in the past few months. African-Americans marching for equality. Europeans marching against terror. When you march, you’re taking a stand for and against something. Those who march in D.C. this January are standing against injustice, terror in the womb, corruption in our laws, and a lack of compassion in the hearts of our citizens. They’re also marching for something. They’re marching for life, beauty, possibility, and the dignity of the unborn to be recognized. Like the Israelites marching around Jericho seven times, this march is meant to take the walls of death down to the ground.
