Infamous ‘Pink House’ Mississippi abortion clinic is now a consignment store

Staff at Jackson Women’s Health Organization, also known as “The Pink House,” committed the facility’s last abortion on July 6, 2022, just one day before Mississippi’s trigger law went into effect, finalizing the end of elective abortion in Mississippi. As Live Action News reported in July of 2022, Diane Derzis, the former owner of Jackson Women’s Health Organization, confirmed the building had been sold just minutes after the United States Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. She said the abortion facility does not plan to attempt reopening in Mississippi.

Now, six months later, the question of what would happen to the building has been answered. A luxury consignment furniture store, Hunt the Shop, will be relocating from their location on Old Canton Road to North State St. in Jackson, Mississippi.

According to WBLT, Mike Peters, a Jackson Businessman, purchased the building. Peters said, “The whole neighborhood has been waiting for this day.” Peters also explained that it was his goal to fill the building with a positive business that would breathe new life into the community.

On Tuesday afternoon, January 10, 2023, the interior of the building was being gutted so remodeling could begin. David Carpenter, owner of Hunt the Shop, said they are hoping to move into the new location by March 1, 2023. According to their website, the business is based out of Jackson, MS, and prides itself in unique, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces for homes, offices, or collections.

While Jackson Women’s Health Organization is no longer active in Mississippi, the business’s bright pink website says, “Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade. We want to make sure women have access.” It continues, “No woman can call herself free until and unless she decides when or whether to become a parent.” It refers women to the business’s new location in Las Cruces, New Mexico, also referred to as “The Pink House West.” This facility offers chemical abortions up to 11 weeks and surgical abortions up to 19 weeks.

The business also refers women to abortion facilities in Bristol and Richmond, Virginia.
