Planned Parenthood affiliate leaving national organization over abortion mandate

Planned Parenthood’s number-one priority? Abortion. Women’s health? Not so important.

A New York Planned Parenthood clinic is leaving the national Planned Parenthood organization because of the mandate for all clinics to provide abortions by 2013. The clinic will now be known as the Family Planning Center of South Central New York. According to Debra Marcus, the CEO, offering abortion would mean they’d simply be duplicating services already available in the area. She said that the only thing the clinic would be changing is its name.

Planned Parenthood, meanwhile, is less focused on meeting women’s specific health needs than it is on ensuring that abortion is as widely available as possible. Communications Vice President Eric Ferrero explained:

In recent years men, women and teens in communities across New York and nationwide have increasingly relied on Planned Parenthood for a wide range of core services, from well-woman exams to lifesaving breast and cervical cancer screenings. In response to these patient needs, Planned Parenthood affiliate leaders decided to offer a consistent set of services at all health centers so that patients can receive essential care wherever they live.

Within the next couple of years, abortion services will be available in at least one health center per Planned Parenthood affiliate, though not at every health center.

Notice the double-talk? Planned Parenthood likes to claim that its focus is on “women’s health.” This is why the organization’s people continue to mention their phony mammograms, for example. Their real focus, as always, is on abortion.

If Planned Parenthood were focused on women’s health, and not abortion specifically, then why would there even be a need for an abortion mandate? After all, the Family Planning Center of South Central New York is still going to be providing health care for women: gynecological exams, health care education, HIV testing, treatment for yeast infections, etc. They aren’t even anti-abortion – they just don’t perform them on site, and they refer patients to other clinics. They just don’t specifically provide abortion (thus robbing Planned Parenthood of some hefty profits). Because of that, they’ll be branching out on their own.

If it hadn’t already been made clear, this proves it. Planned Parenthood’s number-one priority? Abortion. Women’s health? Not so important.
