A Planned Parenthood facility in North Carolina has sent yet another woman to the hospital, this time for a client seemingly experiencing anaphylactic shock.
Operation Rescue reported that, on October 19, Planned Parenthood Chapel Hill called 911 after a 25-year-old woman developed symptoms of an allergic reaction. Operation Rescue was able to obtain the 911 recording; though much of the call was redacted and the voices were distorted, some of the details were able to be heard.
“We have a patient we were getting ready to discharge and she developed, um, some hives. So we treated her for an allergic reaction, but she continues to have really low blood pressure and continues to have hives,” the staffer said. They continued, [The hives] are all over her body – on her arms and torso, legs, face … her pulse is 144, and her blood pressure is low at 85/57.”
The staffer also said that while the patient was awake, she was groggy.
The staffer then requested for the ambulance to arrive without the sirens on, but the dispatcher refused, saying, “We can let them know, but it’s up to them.”
In the EMS dispatch audio, the suspected diagnosis of anaphylaxis was confirmed. “They’re advising that she’s got hives all over her as well as a low BP,” the dispatcher said, with the EMT responding, “We saw the notes about the silent approach, but just know we’re gonna go ahead and respond emergent.”
The dispatcher replied, “Copy, I would too.”
Anesthesia can lead to allergic reactions, particularly muscle relaxants and natural rubber latex. And — as pointed out during the 911 call — signs of anaphylactic shock include a racing pulse, hives, feeling dizzy and faint, and low blood pressure. And yet Planned Parenthood put their own desire to keep the incident quiet over their patient’s well-being, even though anaphylaxis can quickly become life-threatening.
This is the fourth known medical emergency at this Planned Parenthood facility this year alone. The facility is also under investigation for a botched abortion which took place in January.
“North Carolina did well to limit abortion in the state and create new commonsense safety regulations that supposedly went into effect this summer,” Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue, said. “However, laws are only as strong as the willingness to enforce them. From what we’ve seen, North Carolina state officials did not show any inclination toward holding abortion clinics accountable before these new laws passed, and they have shown even less interest afterward. While these state officials stand by, including a pro-life Lt. Governor, Planned Parenthood is happy to let women pay the price for their negligence again, and again, and again.”
