LIES: Planned Parenthood claims loss of funding caused ‘irreparable harm’ to nation

Planned Parenthood, medicaid, Albuquerque, Lancaster

Last week, Planned Parenthood voluntarily dismissed its own lawsuit against the state of Texas regarding its removal from the state Medicaid program in 2016. In a joint statement with the American Medical Association, the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association, the American Civil Liberties Union, Essential Access Health, and Feminist Women’s Health Center/Cedar River Clinics, Planned Parenthood said that its decision to ask that the case be dismissed was based on the Biden administration’s support for the abortion industry.

“Today’s dismissal of the Supreme Court Title X cases marks another important step forward for patients across the country who have been denied access to essential care during a pandemic,” read the statement. “We are pleased that all parties, including the federal government, agreed that the litigation over the Trump administration’s ‘gag rule’ is no longer necessary. As the comment period on its proposed regulations comes to a close today, we look forward to the Biden administration’s continued prompt action to undo this dangerous and discriminatory rule.”

Abortion is not essential health care and is always elective. The Title X family planning program gives federal funding to health care centers around the country. The money, however, cannot be used to pay for abortions. The Trump administration took it a step further and under the “Protect Life Rule” said the money could not go to health care centers that committed or referred for abortions in any capacity unless their abortion services were physically and financially separated from their actual health care services. Planned Parenthood refused to cooperate and withdrew itself from the Title X program, giving up about $170 million in Title X funding. President Biden has promised to end the Protect Life Rule and Planned Parenthood is confident this funding will be restored along with the $3.1 million in state funding it lost in Texas.

“Patients across the country are counting on President Biden to fulfill his promise, and we are hopeful that this process will continue to move as swiftly as possible to end this rule — protecting Title X patients, physicians, providers, and the health of the nation from further irreparable harm,” said Planned Parenthood.

It’s quite obvious that “the health of the nation” has not suffered “irreparable harm” from Planned Parenthood’s loss of funding. In fact, Federally Qualified Health Centers, which outnumber Planned Parenthood locations 20 to 1, benefited from Planned Parenthood’s removal from Title X when they received $33 million of the money previously being given to Planned Parenthood. Overall, the Trump administration increased the funding to Title X health centers by $114 million. These centers provide actual health care to patients, not abortion, while Planned Parenthood’s actual health services have been declining for years.

Though the abortion corporation said in its statement this week that the so-called gag rule “continues to bring immense harm to people across the country who depend on affordable sexual and reproductive health care — such as birth control, breast and cervical cancer screening, and STI testing and treatment, among other essential health services that Title X provides” the truth is Planned Parenthood barely even offers many of those services.

According to its latest annual report, cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood have declined over 72% from 2004. That’s a drop from 2,157,849 total cancer screenings in 2004 to 598,852 in 2019. In that same time frame, Planned Parenthood Pap tests dropped 77% and manual breast exams declined 75%. Planned Parenthood’s Title X qualified services have overall declined 60% over eight years. Furthermore, only 3% of the female population of reproductive age uses Planned Parenthood, yet Planned Parenthood commits 41% of the abortions in the United States.

Planned Parenthood is continuing down its trail of lies with this latest statement. While the abortion giant may have complete confidence in President Biden’s support of abortion, it also must be noted that the Supreme Court now holds a conservative majority and Planned Parenthood may have been concerned that taking its case against Texas to the Supreme Court could have backfired and led to the removal of funding in other states. Biden, in the meantime, has instructed the Department of Health and Human Services to undo the Protect Life Rule, but the decision to do so is not yet official.
