Planned Parenthood lobbying hard for taxpayer funded abortions

Planned Parenthood Clinic Sign

If you haven’t seen the news reports, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, NOW, and other abortion proponents are not happy about the Stupak-Pitts amendment that removed taxpayer funding of abortion from the House health care bill that recently passed 220-215.

Planned Parenthood has gone so far as to say that they will not support a health care bill unless abortion funding is included. From TheNation.com:

Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards said Wednesday that her organization would not support healthcare reform with an amendment further limiting access to abortion.

What this says to me is that taxpayer funded abortions is a hill that Planned Parenthood plans to die on – despite strong public opposition. It says a lot about where the focus of their organization is.

It is such a big deal to them that they are planning a big “National Lobby Day” on December 2nd to show their support for taxpayer funded abortions.

While Planned Parenthood likes to play with their clinic statistics to claim that only 3% of their services are abortion, it is a fact that they are the nation’s largest abortion provider. According to their own 2007-2008 annual report, they performed 305,310 human abortion which conservatively equates to over $125,000,000 in revenue (assuming a somewhat low $410/per abortion). In short, Planned Parenthood is so highly invested in  performing abortion and the abortion ideology that all this hard lobbying for abortion should be no surprise – it’s who they are.
