A report released this week from the American Life League (ALL) shows the salary of Planned Parenthood’s president, Cecile Richards (pictured right), is climbing, despite the organization’s setbacks. Since 2011, Richard’s salary has increased by 40 percent. Her latest raise takes her up to an annual salary of $590,928. And what has she done to merit such an increase?
The justification for Richards’ raises must be rooted in abortion, because that’s the only thing advancing at Planned Parenthood. As the most recent annual report indicated, Planned Parenthood’s abortion numbers increased over the previous year, killing 327,653 preborn babies – while adoption referrals, prenatal care, and cancer screenings dropped. The number of Planned Parenthood affiliates is also on the decline.
The ALL report says Planned Parenthood currently has 62 affiliates nationwide and reports:
- The 62 affiliates brought in $1, 066,438,338 in 2013
- They’ve merged 17 affiliates since 2011; that’s a 23.4% decrease in the last four years
- That is an average of a 4.68% decrease per year
Despite the 282 new pro-life laws passed in the past five years, the leaders of the abortion giant are seeing dollar signs. ALL reports, “The CEOs saw a 14.6% increase in the average salary in the last three years. At this rate, the average CEO salary will see a 4.8% increase every year.”
Basically, the organization is shrinking, but since they kill enough babies, everyone gets a raise.
What adds to the tragedy of this report is Planned Parenthood preaches a platform of helping the poor and needy. As ALL notes, “[Planned Parenthood] says 78 percent of its patients receive incomes below the federal poverty level. Yet, the combined salaries of its CEOs was $11,536,408 in 2013.”
ALL leaders commented on this injustice:
Judie Brown, president of American Life League, said:
“Planned Parenthood’s claims of serving the poor are ludicrous given the massive salaries it pays its CEOs. In fact, we see by looking at these salaries that PP is more interested in milking the government to line its own pockets off the backs of both the poor and the innocent humans it kills every day.”
Jim Sedlak, vice president of ALL, also weighed in:
“It is really disingenuous for Planned Parenthood to claim to be an organization for the poor when its average CEO salary ranks in the top six percent of all Americans. In addition, the average salary of its top dozen headquarters staff—who do not provide any medical services—ranks in the top two percent. It’s time the American taxpayer stop providing 40 percent of Planned Parenthood’s income.”
Indeed, one of the abortion organization’s largest sources of revenue is its varied government funding which amounted to $528 million of taxpayer money, an average of $1.4 million per day. But that’s beans compared to its reported $1.4 billion in assets.
For a non-profit organization, Planned Parenthood certainly rakes in the profit, and topping that list of profiteers is Richards, who is now making almost $600,000 off the blood of the preborn.
