A new report released by Students for Life of America (SFLA) purports to show that Planned Parenthood targets college-aged women, strategically placing its facilities in close proximity to college and university campuses.
The report, released by the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement, found that nearly 90% of Planned Parenthood’s facilities are located within five miles of a college campus – an 8.6% increase from 10 years ago. The report found that even in states with pro-life protections, 56 Planned Parenthood facilities are within a five-mile radius, offering women birth control, abortifacients, and “hormone therapy.”
Despite the fact that it markets itself as offering women’s health services, Planned Parenthood is overwhelmingly focused on abortion. Though it claims to offer prenatal services, it only provides an estimated 1% or less of those services in the United States. In a Live Action investigative video, many Planned Parenthood facilities admitted that they only offer abortions.
According to its 2020-2021 annual report, Planned Parenthood committed 383,460 abortions in that time frame – the most in its history. The abortion giant’s close proximity to college campuses makes it appear that it is targeting vulnerable young women who feel they have nowhere else to turn and no other recourse than abortion.
“Planned Parenthood has deviously handpicked the majority of their facility locations to be near a demographic that is young, vulnerable, and often away from support systems: college students,” said Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins on the study’s findings. “Planting themselves in what is almost a walking distance to campus, the abortion giant is directly targeting pregnant women on campus, maximizing their ill-gained profits through their proximity.”
SFLA previously released a report which revealed that even some Christian colleges and universities have ties to Planned Parenthood, finding 69 religious schools that promoted or had partnerships with Planned Parenthood noted on their websites.
One takeaway from the study was that the pro-life movement can be more actively engaged in targeting pregnant students through pregnancy resource centers. “Students who unexpectedly find themselves in unplanned pregnancies should be provided necessary support from the pro-life movement to both successfully parent their children and continue to pursue their education,” the report concluded. Live Action News previously compiled a list of ways to support students who are pregnant or parenting on campus.
