While Planned Parenthood stirs up its supporters on the news that Congress hopes to defund the organization, the abortion giant continues to shut down its own non-abortion health centers — and not for budgetary reasons.
The Milford Daily News reports that the Planned Parenthood location in Milford, Massachusetts, closed in December, noting:
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts [PPLM] President and CEO Jennifer Childs-Roshak said the state’s chapter decided to close the Somerville and Milford centers due to a “strategic decision” rather than a budgetary one.
The organization’s “extensive review of the health care landscape” showed that the needs of patients in the Milford and Somerville areas have changed, “while other communities show persisting needs for greater family planning services,” Childs-Roshak said.
The center was only in operation for about six years. At the time, PPLM’s president stated that the center would “address issues like teen pregnancy, high STD rates, and women looking for gynecological services in a convenient, local area.” Now, however, patients are being redirected to five other Planned Parenthood facilities in the state, which are reportedly seeing increase in patient load.
Planned Parenthood has been on a steady streak of shutting down its health centers that merely refer for abortion but do not offer either the surgical procedure or the abortion pill regimen. This was part of the organization’s business plan. As Live Action News reported in November, “in 2011, Planned Parenthood announced that by 2013, it would require every affiliate to offer abortions… and this has since come to pass.” The idea that abortion is only three percent of Planned Parenthood’s “services” seems even more unbelievable in light of this policy:
Planned Parenthood also appears to be focusing much of its business around offering medication abortion (abortion pill). 2015 saw a greater increase in centers offering medication abortions than those offering surgical abortions.
