Planned Parenthood and its allies are insistent that women rely upon the abortion giant — not for abortions, but for vital health care. Cecile Richards has routinely argued that millions of women rely on Planned Parenthood for services like breast exams and cancer screenings; women who don’t have insurance or access to health care need Planned Parenthood to get things like Pap tests, the organization claims. But this simply isn’t true.
Live Action’s newest video exposes Planned Parenthood and its declining health care services.
In the video, Richards herself gives varying numbers for Planned Parenthood’s clientele — anywhere from 2.5 million to 3 million patients a year. And indeed, the number of patients Planned Parenthood sees has dropped. Between 2011 and 2017, it fell by half a million, to be specific. The abortion corporation has had to shut down more than 200 facilities.
And Planned Parenthood’s health care services have plummeted as well. Between 2004 and 2014, Planned Parenthood’s breast exams have decreased by 60 percent, leaving the organization to perform less than 2 percent of United States breast exams; cancer screenings have decreased by 68 percent, with less than 2 percent of cancer screenings being performed at Planned Parenthood; and Pap tests have decreased by 77 percent, currently accounting for less than 1 percent of all Pap tests in the country.
But while Planned Parenthood is seeing fewer women than ever, and its health care services are rapidly dropping, there’s one service that it has no trouble providing — the one that Cecile Richards describes as “vital”: abortion. In fact, during that same period, the number of abortions Planned Parenthood performed rose by 27 percent, even as Planned Parenthood was seeing fewer women in its facilities. The abortion giant currently performs more abortions than any other organization in the country — over 300,000 abortions each year, accounting for approximately 34 percent of all abortions in the United States. That averages out to 887 abortions every day, or one abortion every 97 seconds.
Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding has skyrocketed to over $500 million annually.
This information is exactly why Planned Parenthood should not be receiving taxpayer funding any longer. The facts simply do not lie, and try as they might to convince people otherwise, Planned Parenthood is not a health care organization. It receives half a billion dollars in taxpayer funding, ostensibly to provide health care to women in need, and it is failing to do that. That funding should be redirected to legitimate health care clinics, like FQHCs or community health clinics, that provide comprehensive care to women in need and where health care is the priority — not abortion.
Join us in demanding that Planned Parenthood be defunded today. This abortion corporation does not deserve to receive any more taxpayer dollars, ever again.
