Each year on March 10, abortion advocates celebrate some of the people who make the killing of preborn human beings possible on a daily basis — the abortionists and abortion facility staff. This year, countless pro-abortion groups marked the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers with social media posts.
The goal, according to the Abortion Care Network, is to ‘uplift’ abortionists and ‘celebrate’ them with “acts of gratitude and appreciation.” None of their posts of praise, however, mentioned exactly what it is that abortionists do.
Induced abortion is an act that intentionally and directly kills a preborn human being. It is carried out through different procedures depending on the woman’s gestational stage. Most abortions are currently committed by the abortion pill regimen, which uses two drugs. The first, mifepristone, deprives the baby of nutrients, while the second, misoprostol, causes contractions to expel the baby. Women have shared heartbreaking stories of the physical and emotional trauma they experienced when taking the abortion pill.
In the second trimester, the most common method of abortion is a D&E dismemberment procedure. This involves the abortionist using a Sopher clamp to tear the baby’s arms and legs off of the body before crushing the baby’s skull. If the abortion facility is one that ‘donates’ fetal tissue to researchers, the baby will not be killed by lethal injection before she is dismembered because the feticide would taint her organs and tissue. Research has shown that by the end of the first trimester, preborn children are almost certainly capable of feeling pain.
Disturbingly, undercover videos from the Center for Medical Progress recorded a Planned Parenthood abortionist discussing how much force it takes at times to dismember a preborn child by D&E — especially a child who has not been administered digoxin beforehand to cause cardiac arrest and death. (Digoxin may not be administered if the child’s body parts are set to be harvested by procurement agencies after the abortion.) Abortionist DeShawn Taylor said, “My biceps appreciate when the dig[oxin] works. I remember when I was a [Family Planning] Fellow and I was training, I was like, ‘Oh, I have to hit the gym for this.’”
Celebrating this act and the people who have dedicated their lives to committing as many as possible is misguided at best. Abortion industry workers should be encouraged to leave the abortion industry, not to remain and be ‘proud’ of ending the lives of preborn children. Regardless of the motives of these abortion providers, intentionally killing innocent and defenseless human beings with premeditation is not a compassionate act.
The Abortion Care Network said, “On Abortion Provider Appreciation Day, we celebrate everyone who provides abortion care – from counselors to clinicians to administrative staff; we acknowledge the violence, harassment, political attacks, and challenges providers face daily; and we recognize abortion as an act of community care, love, hope, justice, and liberation.”

It also had ready-made artwork for abortion supporters to post on Instagram, including one that stated, “Abortion providers are there for every phase of our lives.” Ironic.
The Reproductive Health Access Project also shared its support by soliciting donations to help it train primary care doctors on how to commit abortions.
The National Partnership for Women and Families reposted Medical Students for Choice’s post to X, saying, “We thank all abortion providers, staff, and volunteers who work to help as many as possible access the care they need every day despite harassment, political attacks, and legal challenges. Our communities need abortion access, and we must all #CelebrateAbortionProviders!”

And the National Abortion Federation created a customizable Facebook post for abortion proponents to use to celebrate its members “who do so much all year long to light the way and help people overcome incredible obstacles and navigate their way to abortion care no matter where they live.”
Politicians also took the opportunity to show their unwavering support for abortion.
Toni Atkins, who is running for governor of California, shared to X, “Since extremists ripped away our right to choose, abortion providers have faced attacks in many states for offering essential reproductive care. In the #CALeg, I worked to shield CA’s providers from these attacks – no health care provider should fear legal repercussions for providing safe, consensual, and necessary reproductive health services.”

In Oregon, Governor Tina Kotek declared March 10 to be Abortion Provider Appreciation Day in the state, signing a proclamation and saying, “Here in Oregon, we understand that abortion is health care, and providers are appreciated and can continue to provide care without interference and intimidation.” Abortionists from Planned Parenthood, Oregon Health and Science University, and the Lilith Clinic were at the signing ceremony.
Even ice cream makers Ben & Jerry’s got in on the celebration, stating on Instagram, “We honor the abortion care providers past and present who are fighting for our reproductive freedoms.”
The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers was launched following the shooting death of abortionist David Gunn on March 10, 1993, when he exited his car at an abortion facility in Florida. His murder, perpetrated by anti-abortion activist Michael Frederick Griffin, was widely condemned by the pro-life movement.
