Pray for today’s holy innocent
Today, millions of Catholics recognize the Massacre of the Holy Innocents. This recounts the episode when King Herod ordered the execution of all young male children in the village of Bethlehem ages two and younger, to avoid the loss of his throne to a newborn King of the Jews whose birth has been announced to Herod by the Magi. The infants, known in the Church as the Holy Innocents, have been claimed as the first Christian Martyrs. Today, the innocent are still being killed through the violence of abortion and on this day we are reminded to pray for them.
