Pregnant mom wows ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ judges… and gave birth hours before show aired

A pregnant mother auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent this season, proudly cradling her baby bump. She gave birth just before her audition aired on television last week.

Amy Lou Smith sang Beyonce’s “Listen” for the judges while 30 weeks pregnant with a little girl. After her incredible performance, the crowd leaped to their feet, cheering wildly as Smith tried to hold back tears. “The baby’s going, ‘Thank you, thank you!'” hosts Ant and Dec joked offstage.

“I was thinking, your baby’s probably like, really having a lovely little sleep in there,” Amanda Holden, one of the Britain’s Got Talent judges, said, after noting that she was covered in goosebumps. “And then she’s going, ‘Oh, here we go!'”

Judge Simon Cowell joked that he was worried she might give birth on stage. “That doesn’t happen!” he said, adding, “No, I’m sorry, this doesn’t happen. You come out, how many weeks pregnant are you? I was thinking, yeah, we could actually have our first birth on the stage. And I watch you, watch the audience reaction. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone so connected in all my years of doing this. I mean, that was actually quite incredible. And Amy, look, this is your stage. This is your moment. And whatever happens next is just going to be amazing.”

What happened next was, indeed, amazing, as Smith welcomed baby Aida into the world. “Just hours before her audition aired on Saturday, she gave birth to the wonderful baby Aida!” the Britain’s Got Talent Instagram page wrote. “We wonder if little Aida remembers playing such a glowing part in that AMAZING singing performance!”

In an interview with the Mirror, Smith said Aida is doing well.

“She is absolutely perfect and healthy in every single form,” she said. “I am so overwhelmed with all the love and support I’ve received from being on the show. I cannot put into words how in love we are with our perfect little girl. She’s made the family complete. I love being a mum and I’m beyond grateful and blessed that I’ve been able to welcome Aida into the world. It all feels like a dream right now and I keep having to pinch myself to make sure it’s not. We didn’t know my audition would be airing this weekend until the day before and I was already booked in to have Aida – so we were so shocked! I hadn’t told anybody on the show I was having her this weekend – so it’s crazy! As a family we are so in love and I’m so overwhelmed by all the kindness that has come our way. My own little BGT baby!”

Smith got four “yes” votes from the judges, meaning she will be able to move forward in the competition. In the meantime, she said she would be focused on “settling baby Aida into our new little life together.”
