For two weeks every spring, hundreds of women, girls, youth delegates, dignitaries, and diplomats descend upon the United Nations for the annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). This year, between March 4 and 15, international delegations will focus on the priority theme: “Elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.”
Pro-life groups at the United Nations have organized to spread the message that abortion is always an act of violence against women and girls. Each group hosting a parallel event has a specific focus on the ways abortion is an act of violence. Here are three upcoming pro-life events at the U.N. you need to know about:

1. It’s A Girl film screening, hosted by the World Youth Alliance
By showing It’s A Girl, the World Youth Alliance will highlight the fact that sex-selective abortion is an egregious form of violence against women and girls that must be stopped. Currently, the United Nations is silent on the fact that abortion is a type of violence that disproportionately exterminates girls. This is gendercide, and we need to protect our girls by banning abortion.
Reggie Littlejohn, a featured expert in the film, will be present to provide an introduction and take questions. Reggie is the founder and president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, an international coalition to expose and oppose forced abortion, gendercide, and sexual slavery in China.

2. “Survivors of Prenatal Assault,” hosted by the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM) and REAL Women of Canada
C-FAM and REAL Women of Canada will tackle the hard case of pregnancy arising from an act of violence: rape. Rebecca Kiessling, who was conceived by rape, and Liz Carl, who became pregnant through rape, will present their compelling testimonies and answer that another act of violence (abortion) is never the answer. Kiessling has recently been in the news for her leadership in the new initiative to protect those conceived in rape, Save the 1.
“As someone who really cares about rape victims, I want to protect them from the rapist, and from the abortion, but not the baby. A baby is not the worst thing that could ever happen to a rape victim — an abortion is,” explains Kiessling. “We need to educate the American public on the truth in this matter and not make public policy based on myth and misinformation.”

3. “Policy-making to reduce maternal mortality: a holistic approach to maternal care,” hosted by Personhood Education, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), Vida y Familia de Guadalajara (VIFAC), Construye A.C., and the Committee for Excellence in Maternal Healthcare
In accordance with Millennium Development Goal 5, delegates to the CSW often discuss policies for reducing worldwide maternal mortality. Unfortunately, the International Planned Parenthood Federation and sympathetic delegations often use this admirable goal as a vehicle to advance resolutions which promote abortion in developing nations.
World-renowned medical experts specializing in maternal health will present cutting-edge research and policy recommendations to reduce maternal mortality. The expert presentations will focus on the implications of advances in women’s health for policymaking on maternal mortality, contemporary management of high-risk pregnancies, the promotion of dangerous abortions in developing countries by abortion advocates, and Ireland’s impeccable record on maternal health.
The evidence and findings of the Dublin Declaration, which says that abortion is not medically necessary, will be presented to United Nations delegations, along with empirical data showing the correlation between prohibiting abortion and improvement in women’s health.
