Group of U.S. senators again urge SBA to halt COVID relief loans to Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood, abortion

In a letter obtained by the Daily Caller, members of Congress led by Senator Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) are once again calling on Small Business Administration Administrator Jovita Carranza to investigate and halt Planned Parenthood’s “naked attempts to defraud the United States government” and the American taxpayer by allegedly receiving even more Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) COVID relief loans, for which the multi-billion dollar corporation is ineligible.

In May of 2020, after the first wave of federal aid intended to boost struggling American families and small businesses during the pandemic was distributed, the media reported that Planned Parenthood had somehow received $80 million in aid. At that time, Cotton and other members of Congress similarly urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the potential fraud, demanding answers and remedies from the SBA and the DOJ. After the Small Business Administration (SBA) released the names of more than 650,000 businesses which received the loans, it was confirmed that 43 Planned Parenthood affiliates obtained the funding despite ineligibility. They are estimated to have applied for and received somewhere between $65.8 and $135 million taxpayer dollars in all.

The small business aid explicitly disqualified any corporation or business with more than 500 employees total, which included a corporation’s affiliates. Planned Parenthood has over 16,000 workers across the nation, and brings in tens of millions in excess revenue annually. At this point, it is unlikely any of the millions its affiliates received in small business aid have been returned.

The Senators note in their letter:

At least 37 Planned Parenthood affiliates illegally obtained more than $80 million in taxpayer funds during the initial rounds of PPP by self certifying their eligibility for the program. In response, the SBA determined that these affiliates were ineligible to receive PPP loans and issued letters informing them of the consequences of false certifications of eligibility, including repayment of loans, loss of loan forgiveness, and other civil and criminal penalties.

Now, after the latest wave of funding, Congress is yet again demanding answers from the Small Business Administration. It is unrealistic to expect a eugenics-based abortion corporation to be honest about PPP loans they objected to not qualifying for. However, the American people do expect transparency and accountability from the Small Business Adminstration.
