Media messages can influence a culture. Now a short film competition gives aspiring filmmakers a chance to influence Hollywood – and perhaps the culture of a nation for life. Aspiring and existing movie-makers are invited to enter an upcoming international competition for a place in the Life Film Fest, held in Hollywood May 9-12. The deadline to register to enter is this Wednesday, March 20.

5x5The 5X5  Filmmaker Competition is a unique competition with an opportunity for pro-life filmmakers. According to the site, this contest is “an international competition where film students, film hobbyists, independent and professional filmmakers from all over the world create their own 3-5 minute film in a period of 5 days.  All creativity–writing, shooting, editing  and all post production work– must occur within that five day period.  A selection of the best entries will be screened as part of Life Fest.”

The concept is simple. Every team that registers is given a character name and some dialogue that the team must incorporate into the film. The team members have exactly five days to completely produce a 3- to 5-minute short film in whatever genre they prefer, and outside the initial character name and dialogue line, the only limitation is that “all films must reinforce the  intrinsic worth of human life and the profound significance of each life.”

Any filmmaker who can make a 3- to 5-minute film on the value of life is free to enter, and the registration fee is only $5 through Wednesday. Best of all, finalists will have their short film screened in front of entertainment industry professionals in Hollywood. The opportunity to produce such an outstanding work of art that it catches the eyes of those who can expose it to the world is one way to make art reflect life – literally. A short film could make a long impact.

To register for the 5X5 competition, click here. Early bird registration is only $5, but if you miss that and still want to enter, you may do so through April 12 for the regular $15 registration fee.

Additionally, Life Fest has guidelines for other submissions for scripts and films. Click here for information on other creative outlets for promoting the value of life through movies.
