The last remaining abortion facility in Toledo, Ohio, was set to close due to breaking a law requiring abortion facilities to have transfer agreements with a local hospital. Capital Care of Toledo was set to have its license revoked after the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the state could revoke its license for going without a transfer agreement for five months. After this five-month period, Capital Care sought an agreement with an out-of-state hospital, which was also not in compliance with the law.
But according to the Associated Press, pro-abortion feminist Gloria Steinem stepped in and applied pressure to a hospital system, ProMedica, releasing a statement through Toledo Democratic state Rep. Teresa Fedor, urging:
We must not allow a political regulatory scheme to close Toledo’s remaining abortion clinic…. Its absence would not diminish the number of abortions but would increase the injury and death of women in my home city and state. Democracy begins with each person’s control of his or her own body. Without reproductive freedom, there is no democracy for America women….
Ohio hospitals must not allow themselves to be used by politicians to hurt women’s health.
The AP notes that, according to a ProMedica spokesman, “[t]he authorization of the transfer agreement with Capital Care of Toledo ‘formally puts in writing an existing practice to provide emergency medical care to all who need it to our community.'”
An attorney representing Capital Care thanked ProMedica and stated that she intends to “file documents with the Ohio Department of Health to halt license-revocation proceedings.”
Gloria Steinem is known for her extreme, pro-abortion, pro-population control views, even stating, “To be right-to-life for the fetus is to be dangerous for women’s lives.” Steinem discounts the life of the preborn child and pits the life of the mother against that of her child. In reality, no abortion is medically necessary to save the life of the mother, as former abortionist Dr. Anthony Levatino explains:
What Steinem left out of her statement is the fact that women are actually dying today, from legal abortion, at the hands of a largely unaccountable abortion industry.
