Pro-lifers have been pointing out for quite some time that the so-called ‘war on women’ is not reality. GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz candidly issued that reminder while speaking at a town hall in Iowa recently.
Cruz answered a voter’s question about “making contraception available to women who want to control their own bodies” – a loaded question, as contraception already is readily available.
In response, he explained that pro-abortion politicians, particularly Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, hold a losing position on abortion – and that’s why they trump up phony charges about Republicans taking away birth control…
Hillary Clinton embraces abortion on demand in all circumstances up until the moment of birth. Partial-birth abortion with taxpayer funding, with no notification for parents in any circumstances — 91% of Americans say that’s nuts. So what do they do, they try to shift it. The war on women wasn’t that, it was contraceptives. Now listen, I have been a conservative my entire life. I have never met anybody, any conservative who wants to ban contraceptives.
Cruz proceeded to discredit the idea that pro-life candidates are trying to ban or outlaw contraceptives. He mentioned Clinton’s name again when he suggested she is using this issue to fool low-information voters:
So what do you do, you go aha! The condom police! I’m going to make up a completely made up threat, and try to scare a bunch of folks that aren’t paying a lot of attention into thinking someone’s going to steal their birth control. What nonsense!
The Clinton campaign responded to Cruz by pointing to five examples where they claim he has tried to ban contraception (he actually didn’t, of course). Naturally, the post focused solely on attacking Cruz, and did not bother addressing Clinton’s position on abortion.
The 2012 Democratic Party platform indeed advocated for abortion, even suggesting support for funding the procedure with taxpayer dollars. And Clinton herself has not shied away from supporting abortion or Planned Parenthood.
While abortion advocates try to create a phony war on contraception, the real war is being waged against religious freedom. Under Obamacare’s HHS Mandate, employers have been required to provide even potentially abortifacient contraception (emergency contraception and the IUD), many against their religious and moral objections. The real war is also being waged on the preborn, including preborn women, who are being killed by abortion.
At best, the ‘war on women’ is a phony and deceptive lie. At its worst, it’s a lie that results in death.
